Since we discovered this local ‘gem‘, on the Internet, we try to visit at least a few times a year.

We had last visited, in 2016, 6 months ago and it had NOT been very pleasant since there was non-stop sounds of gunfire from the target range next door!

But yesterday, a Saturday, around 4:30pm, was QUIET. Not a peep. There were two other cars in the ‘car park’ but we saw nobody, we heard no sounds other than that of nature. It was at its best. There was even some foliage.

‘Youth’ (2015) Movie With Michael Caine & Jane Fonda — Different, Strange But Compelling In Its Own Way.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access ‘’ listing for this 2015 movie.

It was the HBO featured presentation a couple of Saturday’s ago. So, I DVRed it and we watched it the last couple of nights.

Not difficult to watch. If nothing else there are some SUMPTUOUS shots of Swiss landscape (reminiscent of the “Sound of Music“) plus a fair amount of pretty impressive gratuitous full-frontal European-style nudity (pubes and all) thrown in.

Interesting story. Good actors and actresses. Had NO IDEA that that was supposed to be Diego Maradona — and I had no idea that his left-handedness was that famous. Just the 20 second sequence of him (meaning the ACTOR) playing ‘kick-ball’ is worth watching.

The Roly Serrano character. The “kick-ball” sequence in middle. I am NOW paranoid. At the rate I am going will I end up as BIG as this? This was sobering. I must modify my diet. And I can’t even at my current weight play “kick-ball”! Click to ENLARGE if he isn’t already BIG enough.

Not difficult to watch. Try and catch it IF you can.

“Knight’s Pond”, Alton, N.H. — 6 Months Apart In 2016.

by Anura Guruge

Knight’s Pond” in Alton is one of our favored local jaunts, when the mood takes us. We were there yesterday and I posted these foliage pictures.

I was looking through my previous “Knight’s Pond” post when I was struck by these similarities. Déjà vu, all over again.

February 29 & September 24, 2016.

Pictures on left (Sept.) with Nikon P900 those on right (Feb.) with Panasonic Lumix LX100.

India’s Continued, Petulant Refusal To Permit The Use Of Umpire “Decision Review System” DRS Is Just Plain Stupid.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. I created this for those not familiar with cricket’s DRS.

For the world of me, I do NOT understand:

  1. What the Indians are so worried about. DRS, 98% of the time, is pretty damn good. Yes, you get the infuriating “Umpire’s Call” decisions BUT those cut BOTH WAYS. There is no bias.
  2. Why do their opponents, now poor New Zealand in the latest 2016 Test in Kanpur, agree?
  3. Why can’t the ICC mandate that DRS, with all three technologies shown above, is mandatory in all Tests?

Not having DRS in Tests involving India is making a MOCKERY out of modern Test cricket.

All modern Tests played without DRS should now have an asterisk so that people looking at these Tests in years to come will know that umpiring decisions could NOT be reviewed.

I see Indian players all bent out of shape when a decision goes against them. So why not have DRS.

And then the STUPIDEST thing of all. Even though DRS is not there the umpires can ask the 3rd umpire to arbitrate. And the Indians are cool with that — though they had a catch overturned because the ball brushed the chin strap of the fielder’s helmet.

Not right.

Funnily enough I bitched about this EXACTLY, to THE DAY
a year ago. Talk about consistency.
