Somebody’s “Enid Blyton” Collection.

by Anura Guruge

Not mine (though I bought them all). My Enid Blyton collection, when I was that age, and living in Ceylon, was COMPLETE — starting with Noddy and extending all the way to all the series. Not a book missing. So, my collection was probably 6 – 8 times larger. It was also in a glass fronted, bookcase. They, my adoptive parents, gave the books away when we left Ceylon in 1967. They broke up the set. To be fair, it must have cost them a pretty penny to get all those books in Ceylon — some would have to have been ordered from the U.K. But, my adoptive father never had any problems spending money on books.

These books came out yesterday. This is a whole new setup. New shelves … she put up etc. She used to keep her Enid Blyton books in a drawer for safekeeping. It made me happy to see them out.

IF you are sharp-eyed you will notice a Richmal Crompton ‘Just William’ book amongst these. She treats that book as part of her collection — given that it is British!

Microsoft Word 2016 Will NOT Do ‘Autosave’ To Disk — Just To ‘OneDrive’!

by Anura Guruge

From Microsoft Support Community.

I kid you NOT. I would not kid about something this important. I discovered, to my cost, yesterday! Could not believe it. Had ‘autosave’ set — given I am NO mug. But, nothing autosaved. I thought I was cracking up. Started Googling.

This is beyond the pale. Yes, of course, I can tell it to autosave to OneDrive. But, that doesn’t sit well with me — given that the ‘activation’ of OneDrive says that Microsoft will have access to your search data and content.

So, today, I started saving manually.

IMPORTANT, heads up.

Check your settings.

“Atlantic Broadband” Cannot Deliver Gigabit ‘Gigaedge’ To Their Modem In Alton [N.H.]!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. ‘speedtest.net’ results from a few minutes ago. Yes, I know — server dependent. But, you would expect to see AT LEAST 150Mbps on a supposed 1,000Mbps service.

Click to access my original post from yesterday.

It is official as of around 1pm (Eastern). Atlantic Broadband, despite charging me for it, CANNOT deliver 1 Gig to their modem, at my house! The best that seems to come out of the modem, when my PC is directly attached to it, is around 550Mbps — but on average 450Mbps.

Atlantic Broadband has admitted that that was NOT right. They are sending another technician, on Friday, between 2 – 5pm, to see if they can rectify it.

So, my BITCHING about it yesterday was justified — and I got results. I forwarded my link to . They arranged for a technician to call me.

We spent 40-minutes. He, ‘Dave’, was very nice. He tried all sorts. But, could NOT get a reading that even got to 600Mbps.

Appears I am the FIRST to get ‘1 Gig’ in Alton [NH]. Possible that the cable might not be up to par.

I will, of course, keep you posted.

P.S., For the second time in a week I have had success getting Tech. problems resolved via Twitter.

Continuing my series highlighting the hard to ignore grandeur of this magical place. Check out my entire series. I even have some videos, e.g., ‘Hiking the White House Trail‘.

‘Coyote Rock’ is between the ‘Antelope House‘ ruins and the ‘Standing Cow‘ ruins — in the North Canyon.

“Atlantic Broadband” Gigabit ‘Gigaedge’ Is Mega-Garbage — 450Mbps IF I Am Lucky.

by Anura Guruge

What I see on ‘Fast.com’. I was getting 200Mbps, consistently, prior to the upgrade. I am NOT PLEASED.

I, like so many others, have been ripped off by Telco companies but this was the most egregious.

I paid $40/month to upgrade from my 200Mbps Broadband Internet to the 1Gbps (Gigaedge) service. I was also supposed to pay $50 to cover the new modem, installation etc. After 90 minutes of trying to convince me that it was MY ‘speedtest’ that was at fault the technician decided NOT to charge me the $50. He realized that I had been ripped off.

I am CRUSHED. I am bitterly disappointed. I went with ‘Atlantic Broadband‘ rather than TDS because I thought they would look after me. WRONG. I was duped.

Well, all is NOT lost. I am going to go back to the 200/250Mbps and TRY 1Gig with TDS.

As it happens I have TDS coming in on Friday. So ….

Oh, I am getting 50Mbps upload.

The True Dangers Of Consuming Coconut Oil Finally Exposed — Quite Dramatically.

by Anura Guruge

Having grown up in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in the 1950s — 1960s I have ALWAYS known the true health dangers of coconut oil. People in the U.S. sometimes get coconut milk confused with coconut oil. Coconut milk is CLEAR and comes from inside the nut. Coconut oil is MADE from the thick white ‘meat’ inside of the coconut, attached to the shell.

Ceylon used to have an extremely high incidence of heart disease and by my time it was well known and understood that it was because we cooked everything in coconut oil.

Coconut oil is mainly saturated fat. There are no ‘if and buts’ about that.

I never understood how anybody, in good faith, could claim that coconut oil can be good for you. That was rank nonsense.

At last sense is prevailing. I am glad. I am so fed up arguing with people about this.

Yes, I do use coconut oil and we have some large jars of it. I used it on my head!
