You will be glad to be told that they are not all from our yard — for a change! Just a few. Maybe 50%. The others are from Alton — on my travels.

Russians Visiting My Blog — Finding A Russian, i.e., Cyrillic, Search String ‘семафор’.
According to the ‘Flag Counter‘ Stats (on the sidebar) this blog has had 1,743 hits from Russia over the last few years. That, 0.14% of my overall hits, is neither here nor there, so to speak. These ‘Flag Counter’ stats nor the WordPress.com provided stats I am forced to rely on, will, however, give me any clue as to how these Russian hits go here (i.e., what they were looking for) or what posts they looked at. C’est la vie. You have to assume that SOME of my varied topics might be of interest — AND I do have a published book in Russian!
But, today, I was surprised to find an actual cyrillic search string in my stats, viz. семафор. [See above.]
Thanks to the magic of Google, I could obviously get it translated at once.
It means ‘Semaphore’.
And, I do indeed have posts on semaphores though I am sure the Russians were looking for that term in the context of computer programming — and not, as is in my case, railway signals. I feel bad.

Mozart’s ‘Die Zauberflöte’ (The Magic Flute) Premiered This Day, 226-Years Ago In Vienna, Austria.
I have not seen it in its entirety on stage or on TV. But, I am a sucker for all things Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart — especially since I fell in love with ‘Amadeus‘, on stage, in London, c. 1983.
He was 35 when he wrote ‘Die Zauberflöte‘ and he CONDUCTED the Premiere 226-years ago. He would die 66-days later!
It is worth sparing a thought. Poor Amadeus.

Only one more day left in September and I am amazed by the bounty of flowers we still have. So, I am determined to snap away because it will not be that long before it is all gray, frozen and blanketed by snow!

I Cried When South African Aiden Markram Got Run-Out On 97 Missing His ‘Hundred On Debut’!

From ‘cricinfo.com’ at espncricinfo.com/southafrica/content/player/600498.html. Click to ENLARGE and study here.
90s on Debut — from cricinfo.com.
Note my all-time favorite, Gordon Greenidge, after whom my son is named,
got 93 in the FIRST innings.
Gordon Greenidge, to his credit scored 103 in the SECOND innings,
as such still qualifying for ‘Hundred on Debut’.
What a crying shame and it did make me cry.
I had only seen Aiden Markram once and I had already (i.e., last night) sung his praises — in print.
‘Hundred on Debut’ is quite a landmark and you only get TWO chances, ever, to do it — your 1st innings and the 2nd (if you get one).
As you can see MY MAN Gordon did succeed in the second innings — and in the process scored exactly 200 runs in the match.
There is a chance that Aiden Markram, even IF he gets a 2nd innings, might not have enough time to compile a hundred. It will take quite a bit of work on the part of Bangladesh even to get South Africa to bat again!
I still can’t make up my mind as to who was at fault. Markram was a long way up the pitch.
Such a shame. He took it well. Very mature. I am impressed. This boy is going to go far.
That Dean Elgar THEN managed to get out on 199 is pretty ironic. Do not feel too bad for him. 199 is, by any means, quite an INNINGS.
