Samsung NX500 Epiphany — Why Not Settle For An APS-C Sensor?

by Anura Guruge

samsungnx500

“DPReview” side-by-side camera comparison. It is DIFFICULT to ignore sensor size.

As with the Fuji X-T2 the Samsung NX1 was another camera I lusted after for months and then, at the last minute, shied away because of technical (as opposed to financial) considerations.

I will also readily admit that my requirements, fancies and demands tend to change, sometimes within days — and have over my 2 year saga for a set of long-term cameras. Maybe I will never have a set of cameras I keep for that long. C’est la vie.

Anywho … I think I had dismissed the Samsung NX500 BECAUSE it did not have a viewfinder.

That requirement has changed in the last month! Since I have had the Nikon P900 I have rarely used the viewfinder. So I now know that I can live with just a good LCD.

So the Samsung NX500 is back in the fray.

It has phase-detect AF and I really want phase-detect. And it is an APS-C.

And what I am looking for is a compact.

Still not sure what my eventual BIG camera will be.
