“Skerryvore” (From Scotland) The Headlining Performers At Loon’s 2016 “Highland Games”.

by Anura Guruge

The 2016 Scottish Highland Games
in Loon, New Hampshire

will be on Friday – Sunday,
September 16 – 18, 2016.

Yes, ALL the evergreens, viz. The Brigadoons, John Carmichael, Charlie Zahn and Albannach are back ALONG with the Glengarry Bhoys (from 2014 & before) and the Searsons. Click to access the official “NHScot” Website.

Click to access the “Skerryvore” official Website — with samples of their music.

The name “Skerryvore” comes from the name of a reef OFF the Scottish west coast island, Tiree, from which the original band hailed (in 2005).

Not as strident as Scottish groups of the past … but this could be the mellower sound. Easy on the ears. Looking forward to checking them out.

Here are 2 recent YouTubes of Skerryvore.

Tiree is highlighted in yellow. Skerryvore Reef is to the southwest of the island.

“Kelly’s Country Kitchen”, Farmington, New Hampshire — I Am Impressed.

All taken with my Fuji X-E2s.

Please excuse the cobweb on the stove. My pictures miss nothing! Sorry. SMILE. This is my obsession with razor sharp focus.

Click image to access their Facebook page. I couldn’t find a Website BUT I know Facebook to many of you is as good, if not better, than a Website. [And I am cool with that too … as Facebook shareholder. SMILE.]

Given that the persistent rain (contrary to the WMUR weather forecast) precluded us from going horseback riding (in ‘The Clouds‘ (as was the plan (and reservation)) I opted to take Teischan for ‘brunch’ — especially since this was my day off running which means that I like a hearty breakfast.

I had heard of “Kelly’s” and driven past it hundred of times BUT we had never stopped. Well that will not be the case as of today.

I was impressed. WOW. A New Hampshire diner that has Mimosa (“Buck’s Fizz” to us Brits) on the menu and at $4.50 to boot. That alone is recommendation enough and it wasn’t half-bad. IF I didn’t have to drive I would have had two or three more.

Good food. GREAT PRICES! I like that. To me this is always a good recipe for success and customer loyalty.

Yes, very country with LOTS of interesting artifacts. Some GREAT stained glass. Love the Lion. I would have bought it. I gather it is made by a lady at Alton. She should contact me.

Good service. Just one young lady, ‘Megan’, who was working hard. I was impressed.

This, as of now, is going to be MY breakfast/Brunch place. Good prices and Mimosa. My kind of place.

The Fuji X-E2s is the camera that I own!

The DPReview findings are 100% congruent with my findings and feelings.

That is why I am FLEEING Fuji into the arms of Nikon.

In 2 days time I intend to have RENTAL a Nikon D500 in my hands.

Teischan (10) Learning To Use Standup Paddle Board — August 9, 2016.

by Anura Guruge

Click pictures to ENLARGE.

Taken with my Fuji X-E2s.

Halfmoon Lake, Alton, New Hampshire
[‘our’ lake in that we have beach rights to it].

Teischan has been happily riding on a
standup paddle board since 2011,
when she was 5.
That being when we bought two.
Even this week I took her for
2 rides.

This was June 8, 2011. Her first ride.

Today, at my urging, with the paddle shortened, she made an attempt to
start paddling on her own. Maya, as ever, was never far from her.
