Meditation On The Move …

by Anura Guruge

You can, with minimal training and practice, successfully meditate anywhere, anytime.

Meditation does not require serene, darkened rooms with candles and incense.

All that successful meditation requires is your ability to commune with YOUR BRAIN.

Once you learn to do that you can meditate anywhere, anytime — while you wash your hands, ride a bike, stand in line for a coffee, take a walk, drive a car …

Anywhere … Anytime.

I can’t tell you how good it feels to meditate while taking a shower.

Quick bursts of meditation, for less than a minute, 10 times a day, is as good, if not better, than trying to make ‘quiet time’ to meditate for 20 minutes in the evening.

Think about it.

All meditation, in the end, cut to the chase, is about THINKING.

THINK.

MEDITATE.

Sling TV On The Roku — Another Option For Streaming Rio 2016 Olympics.

by Anura Guruge

slingrio

Click to access Sling TV official Website.

This is another Rio 2016 Olympics OPTION if you do not have a NBC provider — which would allow you to get the “NBC Sports” channel, with GREAT Olympics coverage, on the Roku.

As always with Sling TV there is a 7-day FREE trial. So that would give you plenty of time to check it all out.

So … another option for Rio 2016.

Delta Airlines’ Power Hit Fiasco Proves That Today’s Corporations Sacrificing Mission Criticality For Profit.

by Anura Guruge

delta

From the BBC reporting on today’s “6-hour” meltdown. Google for much, much more.

drbt

Click to ENLARGE and read here. From a document I wrote in 2004 — 12 years ago.

That all of Delta’s systems went down — for at least 6 hours — when their main datacenter in Atlanta, Georgia, got hit by lightning is LUDICROUS.

Since the advent of high-speed, high-capacity optical fiber-based networks in the 1990s we have had the technology, expertise and experience to implement ‘mission-critical’, ‘zero-downtime’, ‘disaster recovery’, mirrored data centers to avoid exactly this type of meltdown.

My speciality in those days, when I was “Mr. SNA” for over 20 years, were these so called ‘Mission Critical’ networks. Systems/Networks that could NOT be down for much more than a FEW MINUTES since such an outage would adversely impact the business mission of an enterprise. This was particularly true for airlines, banks, financial institutes.

That Delta does not have a mirrored data center operation is SAD but telling.

Mirrored, disaster recovery data center operations are HUGELY expensive. No question about that.

So Delta like so many other corporations of today are forgoing ‘mission criticality’ in the interest of profits.

Basically Delta is saying that they are WILLING to take this type of hit, every few years, rather than spend tens of millions of dollars more, EACH YEAR, on maintaining mirrored data centers.

I just wanted YOU to know that this Delta fiasco was eminently avoidable.

2016 Annual Perseids Meteor Shower, August 11 – 12, Expected To Be BIG — 200/Meteors/Hour.

by Anura Guruge

Perseids on August 12, 2007 from NASA.

Perseids Meteor Shower over New Hampshire New England

The Perseids Meteor Shower happens each and every year, without fail, in ‘mid-August’. This is because at that time the Earth crosses the path of the repeatedly left behind debris from the periodic comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle — which orbits the Sun with a 133.28 year orbital period. It was discovered in 1862 BUT may have been orbiting the Sun long before that. It was last seen from Earth in 1992. The next time around be in 2126.

109P/Swift-Tuttle has an perihelion distance of 0.96 AU (i.e., just inside Earth’s orbit) and an aphelion of 51.2 AU — which takes it past Pluto.

The name of the Meteor Shower, i.e., Perseids, comes from the constellation Perseus — where the meteors appear to originate. See image above.
