What made this even MORE special was that Ceylon had just got its independence from Britain

Sri Lanka At The Rio 2016 Summer Olympics — Down To 7 Athletes.

The Google Portal had listed 9 athletes.
But the two marked with a cross
do NOT appear in the ‘official’ list.
Would appear that the official squad is even smaller than what had been initially portrayed.

Another fun event at the “Gilman Library” in Alton, New Hampshire.
It was so good to meet the other authors. As ever made me appreciate my limitations.
Many thanks to Roza Benoit, Holly Brown & Lily Yari for making this happen. Bravo.

Sri Lanka At The Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.
At every recent Olympics, whether Summer or Winter, during the Opening Ceremony I get the notion that I should check the squad to see what they are representing (– suffice to say that equatorial Sri Lanka does not normally put up much of a showing at Winter Olympics).
Appears, per Google’s Olympics portal, that Sri Lanka is fielding a 9 person squad. That Google cannot find the picture for 3 of them is NOT promising nor good. That is bad.
Seems like a small squad for a country that now has a 20 million population. Yes, I will have to go digging for the squad sizes by country.
I expected to see some participation in golf and tennis — both played quite extensively by Sri Lankans. Also no boxing.
Appears, per the official Olympics site, that Sri Lanka, has only ever won two medals (and I think I vaguely remember the 2000 medal):
