The LAST pictures I took with my refurbished $269 Canon PowerShot G1 X. JPEGs, as usual, with no post-processing, whatsoever. Straight out of the camera. I am not a lover of post-processing. I am returning the G1 X back to Canon, after having it for less than a week. It is way too slow for me. That is a shame because I really do like it. Takes good pictures but the lag between each picture is not for me.
Note we still have great foliage in Central New Hampshire.
I was pleased and amazed during my morning run.

Ball kissing my Sri Lankans. This is Lasith Malinga, after he has put it on the grass and worshipped it.
Yes, yes, I know given that I grew up over there that Sri Lankans, by nature, are a superstitious bunch — and nobody could be more so than my adoptive mother. She had the whole repertoire. So, I am no stranger to the practices — like putting spit on any discarded hair so that a curse, upon you, cannot be put through that discarded hair. The discreet, head turned away, mouth-covered spitting sounds made to ward off ‘evil words’ were classic.
But, I still can’t get over Sri Lankan cricketers kissing their balls and for that matter bats. Yes, nearly all kiss the national emblem on their helmet upon reaching a 50 or 100, BUT I am talking about the habitual kissing of inanimate cricketing paraphernalia. Some, Lasith Malinga in the fore, would WORSHIP the ball before giving it tongue. He would place the ball on the ground, pay devotion to it and then take it to his mouth. Yikes.
Dhammika Prasad, who must be another Christian like the captain Angelo Matthews, given that he crosses himself before he starts to bowl, also worships the ball — Christian style — and then sticks it in his mouth. GROSS.
I understand that it is common within sporting circles to seek divine intervention and give thanks when something good happens. But worshipping a cricket ball. Yes, I understand that a hard, gleaming virgin cricket ball is a thing of beauty and awe. But to worship it and kiss it? And then there was that opener, who name I can’t remember, who would kiss the handle of his bat, through the grill of his helmet, each time he survived a ball. He never kissed the bat when he got out.
Very strange and it looks even stranger. It does make me cringe and I now try to look the other way. Maybe I should start practicing my adoptive mother’s, head turned away, mouth-covered ‘thuup, thuup, thuup’, spitting motions and sounds, each time Prasad kisses his ball.
I Am Returning My $269 Refurbished Canon G1 X, It Is Way TOO Slow For Me.

The $269 Refurbished Canon G1 X, I got directly from Canon, takes some amazing, very clear, very sharp pictures with vivid color. It is really good at taking facial pictures. I was very impressed with the image quality.
But, when it came to me, a well documented Type Hyper-AAA +++ person, it was WAY TOO slow between shots. It is rated at 1.9 shots per second but I never saw anything that quick. You take a picture and you want to review it. It takes forever. You get this black screen saying ‘BUSY’. I just can’t deal with that. Life is too short to waste peering at a black LCD for it to display the image I want to see.
So, great little (but heavy) camera. Loved it. Just did NOT like the lag time between shots — or at least between shots in my type of shooting, i.e., take a picture, make sure it is OK, then move to the next. Yes, I am sure if I held the shutter down it would take pictures fairly rapidly. But I do not do that often. I like to see what I shot before I move on. That way I can take another to correct any problems.
So I am back to the drawing board. What next?
TDS Telecom Having Bandwidth Issues In Central New Hampshire.

TDS’ own speedtest. Click image to access. This is TDS testing my MetroCast bandwidth. Damn it is BELOW 75Mbps.

IF you get your Internet from TDS Telecom, and are in New Hampshire, check YOUR bandwidth. Use the link provided above because that is TDS’ own test.
CHECK.
Last night [i.e., Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015] there was hardly any bandwidth.
Today is better BUT it is not 100%. So IF you, for example, are paying for 15Mbps download you might only be getting 7Mbps.
Check. Call. Complain. Ask for a credit. SMILE. You have to keep them honest.

I know because I have called them up 3 times today, Monday, October 26, 2015. The first time was around noon. The guy I spoke to sounded vague and confused. But on the other two calls I got very proficient ladies who explained exactly what the problem was. They came in this morning to find that the system was ‘going up and down’. It had then been taken down by IT. They weren’t sure when it would be up.
HOPE that they have NOT been hacked, à la Sony. IF they have been hacked we won’t hear about it for weeks. I will not, of course, be amused. As somebody who has bought multiple refurbished cameras directly through them, they have my credit card information.
So, a heads up, if you have dealings with Canaon U.S.A., as I do.
