A Shaving Regimen For Ultra-Sensitive Skin: ‘Shave Secret’, Nivea, Hydrocortisone, Vitamin E Oil, Brut & Gold Bond.

by Anura Guruge

One of the supreme (and very frustrating) ironies of my life is that I have really, really soft and sensitive skin on my face, whereas the skin on the rest of my body is rougher and tougher than that of a grizzled elephant. Mosquitoes rarely bite me because they can’t penetrate my skin … The only reason I can attribute to this sensitive facial skin is that I, at the urging of who would eventually become my first mother-in-law, started using ‘Oil of Olay‘, on a daily basis since I was 18.

Well, shaving is a living hell for I.

IF I had any sense I would NOT shave BUT I don’t think I would be able to cope with a thick beard — though to be fair, I have never tried. The longest I have ever gone without shaing (even when I had a goatee in my early 20s) is probably 5-6 days!

Over the decades I have tried everything. Nothing works in terms of comfort. I suffer, I cringe, I itch, I fret.

About 7-months ago, I, serendipitously, discovered ‘Shave Secret‘ at Walmart. I have been using it ever since. It does work to an extent.

Now, however, I use it in conjunction with Nivea ‘Sensitive Skin’ shaving gel — which I had been using for a couple of years.

Of late I am making sure that I only use a disposable razor for but 3 shaves. Throw it away after that. Not worth the risk.

The latest addition, which has made a difference, is Hydrocortisone. That helps.

Then lots of Vitamin E and I use it at night as well.

And then … aftershave and my beloved ‘Gold Bond‘ (which I use liberally (and I worry that it makes me look too white)).

So that is the torture I go through — like this morning.

So PLEASE spare a thought for what I have to endure each time I have to shave — and I never go out in public without shaving.

“Victorian Slum House”, A New Reality Show That Just Started On PBS (From BBC 2), Looks Interesting.

by Anura Guruge

Link to the PBS homepage for this show.

YouTube trailer.

I, somehow, missed the trailers for this on PBS — despite watching at least one PBS show, e.g., “Home Fires“, every week.

Just heard about it when I got an e-mail from PBS — saying that it is available online.

First episode was screened May 2, 2017. So, I should be able to find a repeat — ‘on air’. I will look when I am next in front of my big TV.Hom

Looks interesting. Maybe it is too depressing to watch for long. But, certainly worth a look to begin with.

I Am Trading In My 5.5 Month Old Sony a6000 At Amazon.

All packed, ready to be dropped off at UPS Store in Concord, NH, on Thursday, May 4, 2017.

Arrival of the Sony a6000 kit, from ‘Cardinal Photo’, on November 16, 2016.

I got the kit, on a pre-‘Black Friday’ steal, for $699.

See this post.

The Sony a6000, was ALWAYS, going to be temporary.

The plan, as of October 2016, was to get Sony a6500 — when it became available in mid-December 2016. I can demonstrate that! {SMILE}

I didn’t end up getting a6500 because I was in the throes of writing my ‘Central Pain Syndrome‘ book. I wanted to finish that book before I got another new camera.

So now is the time, though I have already started working on my NEXT book.

Yes, I am still going to get a Sony a6500 BUT not for another couple of weeks.

I am first going to get a Sony a7II. Yes, I am going Full-Frame. A bucket-list wish.

Then I am getting a6500 to be my compact for shows, concerts, circuses etc.

Amazon is promising me $476 for the trade-in as you can see from the first image.

But, they invariably reduce that offer once they have the camera. I am expecting around $420.

So, I paid $699 and will get back $420.

So having the Sony a6000 for 5 and a half-months would have cost me $279.

That comes to $1.65 a day!

And nobody, but nobody could say I did NOT use that camera.

I took 11,684 pictures with the a6000 during those 169 days — in addition to using my Nikon P900 on some days.

That says I paid $0.02 per picture.

So, I am happy.

Hoping to have the Sony a7II next week and the Sony a6500 at the end of the month. There is a show we are going to in early June.
