My Jaguar XJS V-12 (1989) Goes To Alton, New Hampshire.

Out and about two days running (in every sense of the word). Well it, i.e., the XJS, along with the XJ8, the MGB and the Nissan Quest, all needed to be registered prior to month end. Plus the XJS needed some petrol. For those of you who have never owned a Jaguar, Jaguars run on PETROL, not gas. Got that. This was at the Town Hall.

They are all registered. You can actually see the bright green 2018 decal on the number plate. Next step — having them inspected. In the case of the Jags that will be Wednesday.

My Jaguar XJS V-12 (1989) Gets A Rare Outing.

I have NOT driven it much at all this year. I have, of course, been using my 2002 Jaguar XJ8 — though not that much either.

It is that time of the year. Both Jags and the MGB need to be registered by October 1 — which also means, in New Hampshire, that I have to get them inspected. So, I thought I should stretch the XJS’ legs prior to taking it to ‘Paul’ at B-Boys, in Barnstead, on Wednesday. It is a fun car to drive.

Brandon Bostian, Engineer In 2015 Deadly Philadelphia Amtrak 188 Derailment, Charged.

by Anura Guruge

The Amtrak 188 train derailment outside of Philadelphia on May 12, 2015 had an impact on us — directly.

We had tickets to go to Philadelphia on May 14, 2015 — 2 days later — to pick up my Jaguar XJ8.

Amtrak cancelled service around Philadelphia for a week!

Ended up having to go to New York by Amtrak and then taking a Greyhound to Philadelphia. That actually turned out to be quite a fun trip.

But, Amtrak 188 and Brandon Bostian became etched into my life.

I had been wondering what would happen to him.

Read the story. Quite interesting. The ‘authorities’ were NOT going to press charges — willing to concede that it was an unfortunate accident. However, families of those affected had the option to insist. Neat.

New Hampshire 2017 Topless Season Started Today, April 27.

by Anura Guruge

April is coming to an end, and the 1969 MGB, with its antique plate, is due for its bi-annual inspection. [For those of you are not familiar with the NH ‘Antique Number Plates’ for vehicles over 20 years old, they only need to be inspected every other year — but ALL inspections have to be done by May of that year. Kind of cute. This is to ensure that these cars don’t have to be driven during the winter just so that you can get them to a garage for inspection. So they give you till the end of April.]

I have an appointment with ‘B-Boys‘ in Barnstead, on Friday, April 28, 2017 for the inspection. So had to make sure it would start etc. It did start, with the aid of a jumper (our our Nissan Quest) after some cajoling. Always amazes me that it starts after the long winter hibernation.

The XJS also needed a jump to get it going. Took it for a long ride (35 minutes) TOPLESS. It was good. But, I had Devanee follow me, all the way, in the van — just in case! That is NOT good.

But, topless season, in New Hampshire, is now officially started.

I have not seen (as yet) but I am told that it is in great shape. Low milage at 45K and 5 years younger than my XJS.

If you are in the market for a Jag this is definitely worth checking. OK?

Paul Bousquet, “B-Boys”, Barnstead (N.H.) — An Absolute Gentleman.

by Anura Guruge

B-Boys Barnstead New Hampshire Anura Guruge

That I think the world of Paul Bousquet, the owner of “B-Boys” auto shop in Barnstead, New Hampshire, has been well documented on this blog.

Since I serendipitously discovered them in May of last year, I have entrusted all our vehicles to Paul, with CONFIDENCE — and that includes my two Jags.

Paul is GREAT.

Today, he yet again, demonstrated what a STAR he is. There aren’t, alas, too many absolute gentleman like Paul left in the world. He, I think, is ‘old school’ (in the BEST possible way) and so am I. We are of the same generation. We share the same values. I am loyal to those that take care of me and Paul is loyal to his customers.

I will not go into details because Paul wouldn’t want me to.

It had to do with my 1989 Jaguar V12 XJS that died on me, in the middle of the road, 12 days ago.

Suffice to say I had it ‘towed’ to Paul. Among other things it needed a new alternator. Well Paul took care of all of that.

Today, I finally got it back. I know that working on a 1989 V12 XJS is NOT easy. Paul has done miracles.

And he is SO FAIR.

Wow. The world desperately needs more people like Paul.

Enough said.

Thank YOU, Mr. Paul Bousquet. Thank You, “B-Boys”.

My 1989 Jaguar XJS V-12 Finally Lives Up To Its Reputation!

by Anura Guruge

Whenever people hear that I have two Jags, a XJ8 (2002) and a XJS, they start asking questions about how often they break down, how much time they spend ‘at the shop‘ and the ‘small fortune‘ that it must cost to keep them running.

Until yesterday, Sunday, September 25, 2016, I had been REMARKABLY lucky. Neither Jag had left me stranded on the side of the road. Yes, this Summer the Xj8 refused to start in the garage. It needed a new battery. Over the winter the alternator belt on the XJS broke but it did not stop on the roadside.

But on Sunday, the XJS lived up to its unfortunate reputation. I had had a nagging hunch that it was not 100% right for a month or so. When we took it to the ‘Gilford Old Home day’, on what was a particularly hot day, it had acted up a bit and had been hard to start. But other than that it was driving beautifully. It is a joy to drive and I have never driven it with the top up. It is my topless car. But on Sunday it just died. Driving along on a back road. Doing 40-45 mph. Going along perfect … and then JUST dies. No stalling etc. Just dies.

Had to have it trailered to “B-Boys” in Barnstead. Wasn’t too bad. We have ‘AAA Premier’. So towing is covered. However, had to wait 90 minutes for the truck but it could have been worse. Thank YOU, “” out of Rochester, New Hampshire and CRAIG. Craig was excellent.

Don’t know what is wrong. Maybe fuel pump. That would be easy. Could be worse. I will let you know.
