Was doing my usual morning loop of lovely Bar Harbor (Acadia’s main harbor), starting at the ‘Bar’ and continuing through town, when on a whim I pulled into the harbor — mainly because I saw an empty parking spot. As soon as I parked I saw the boat. Directly in front of us. Knew right away that this was ‘unusual’. Hadn’t seen any wrecks in this harbor before and it was my 9th time in Bar Harbor.

Took these pictures. Later on that day, back at the ‘Wonder View Inn‘, read the above story online.

Wow. So, we must have pulled in shortly after they ‘beached’ her. In my time on ‘The Lake‘ I have untangled many a fouled prop — albeit by either leaning over or going in the water. This looks like it was a rookie mistake by a youngster. I feel bad for him. Replacing the electronics and engine will not be ‘cheap’ — even if insurance kicks in.

236-years. That is a pretty respectable age for a U.S. West Coast city — and it was, of course, established by the Spanish, missionaries, at that. Quite the history that now often gets lost in the fog.

Wow, Larry Page and  incorporated on September 4, 1998, while still postgraduate students at Stanford. One of their early, Angel investors was Jeff Bezos of Amazon! No wonder he is so rich. I don’t recall seeing any mention, of late, that Jeff Bezos is still an investor. He most likely is, in which case we have a Google — Amazon relationship that I have never heard talked about by financial gurus.

The domain name ‘google.com‘, with “google” per se a misspelling of “googol“, i.e., 10 to the power of 100, September 15, 1997 — just under a year ahead of the incorporation.

I guess Larry and Sergey had NOT Googled “September 4” to realize that it was “E-Day”, for Edsel, a day remembered for spectacular failures. I guess Google proved that wrong.
