by Anura Guruge

Click to access their official Website.

I had heard about this earlier in the Summer.

Mahrajan‘ means festival. It looks good. Great menu and very realistic pricing.

Not sure whether I will be able to make it. I really would like to.

Here is a YouTube of the ‘George Maalouf Band‘ that will be playing Saturday & Sunday.

Donald Trump Continues His FALSE Narrative That Amazon Does Not Charge Sales Tax.

by Anura Guruge

Today’s, i.e., August 16, 2017 tweet — post Charlottesville, VA ramblings.

July 25, 2017 Tweet.

Monday, July 24, 2017 late night TWEET (around 10pm Eastern). Click to ENLARGE.

This is essentially FAKE NEWS and Trump should know it is FAKE unless he really is even more ill informed and confused than we realize.

As of April 2017 Amazon is collecting Internet sales tax on shipments to ALL states that have a sales tax. That is an irrefutable fact. So for Trump to claim that Amazon has a ‘no-tax monopoly’ is wrong.

Yes, prior to April 2017, Amazon like so many other online retailers did not collect (and handover) sales tax to states that had such a tax. But, Amazon did not have a monopoly and the whole issue of Internet-tax has yet to be fully thrashed out yet.

So, yes, it is true that Amazon in the past was ‘no-tax’.

And yes it is still true that Amazon does NOT force 3rd-party sellers on Amazon from charging sales tax. It probably should to be consistent and avoid Trump having a sliver of an excuse.

Trump’s gripe is really NOT against Amazon. He, irrationally, is MAD at the ‘Washington Post‘ but rails against Amazon because Jeff Bezos owns both Amazon and ‘The Washington Post’.

Idi Amin Died This Day 14-Years Ago; 16 August 2003.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here. Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idi_Amin

Idi Amin was a legend in Britain, in the 1970s, during my formative years. I used to subscribe to ‘Punch‘ and they had a weekly Idi Amin column which resulted in this book — which I HAD (and I hope I still have somewhere (though I have a horrible feeling that I lost it along the way).

You know what is frightening?

We now have another President who is no different to Idi — other than being white! SCARY.

Nobska Lighthouse, Woods Hole, Massachusetts.

This classic lighthouse is not in Woods Hole per se — just on the outskirts, on a side road so to speak.

We did not see it on our first two trips to Woods Hole (albeit both trips on the same day). I, however, did not want to leave Falmouth, Mass., without seeing this lighthouse. So on our 4th day, at the Cape, I made a special trip just to see the Nobska Lighthouse. It was worth it. There is parking for 5-6 cars right in front of the lighthouse and we were but the 3rd car there. Compared to the crush in Woods Hole, this place was empty. Nice little path to a rocky but scenic beach.

This lighthouse was very different to the ‘Monhegan Lighthouse’ on Monhegan Island that I had spent much time at just two weeks earlier. This did NOT have the elevation and as such the views. But it is definitely on a much busier stretch of water with large ferries going by all the time. Oh yes, definitely worth stopping by IF you are in the area.

Poor ‘Pete Best’ Got Fired As ‘The Beatles’ Drummer This Day 55-Years Ago — August 16, 1962.

I have always had a soft spot for poor Pete. From what I know he was a decent enough bloke and a competent drummer. I just feel for him. It had to have hurt to see all the success the Beatles enjoyed in later years.

It is not well known that Pete’s mother, Mona Best, was the de facto manager of the Beatles before the famous Brian Epstein came along.

A U.S. Study Of 300,000 Americans Claims That A Glass Of Wine A Day Reduces Heart Risks.

by Anura Guruge

From Monday, August 14, 2017
U.K. ‘Daily Mail‘.

This is NOT new news so to speak. I have heard the virtues of ‘one glass of wine a day‘ for years — which is why I follow that advice religiously. What is interesting is that this study, extensive in scope given the 300,000 Americans followed, appears to contradict a recent British study that expressed doubts as to the health benefits of wine (or beer).

I must also confess that at my annual physical, last week (8/8/2017), my doctor, a very nice , also appeared to express skepticism to the state of my health — my daily glass of red wine notwithstanding. He said I was going to die, but he couldn’t be specific. He just knew I was going to die. Not sure when either. He says it is just a hunch he has — that I am going to die.
