It is easy to forget that he also wrote: Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang!
He, who liked to live the life of Bond, died at 56, from heart disease. But, he lived the good life.

Crusader Rule Of The Holy Land Came To An End This Day 726-Years Ago; May 28, 1291.
That was the fall of Acre,
a strategic sea-port,
in the North of the Holy Land.
An event that goes uncommented now given that so much water has flown under the bridges on the Tiber since then — over 700-year ago.
But, a turning point in both political and religious history.
The crusades were quite the thing. The fall of Acre was a body blow to those in the West.
So, on this Memorial Day weekend, spare a thought for how the Crusades to Jerusalem came to an end.
