“Ferguson’s Ceylon Directory” 1966 (108th Edition) — Thanks To My Collaborator Louis Epstein.

I can’t say that I had heard of this encyclopedic ‘almanac’ or come across it prior to getting an e-mail from my long time collaborator Louis Epstein. Louis who lives in upstate New York had come across it at his local ‘dump’.

It is huge. Its dimensions are: 8.5″ x 5.5″ x 3.5″. I will have to weigh it tomorrow.

There is an entry for “Guruge” and “Anura” does appear within that — though in 1966, the year before I left Ceylon, I was only 13. Also found entries for two of my uncles so far.

It is amazing. We don’t produce almanacs like these now. SHAME. The amount of work that went into producing each of these has to be horrendous. I have since found some of these for sale online.

That the cover features “The Ceylon Manure Works” is CLASSIC.

I will scan some pages and share with you as we go along.
