by Anura Guruge

Wow. It is true. I happened to see this ‘post’, on my Google News feed earlier today. When I was next in front of the TV I tried it out. Yes, they are free. STRANGE. Couldn’t find a Christmas theme. Closest was a ‘White Winter’. So, have that now. See below. Enjoy.

“A Place To Call Home”, The Australian “Downton Abbey”, NEW Season 6 + New Season 5 Episodes.

by Anura Guruge

On “Acorn TV” in the U.S. acorn.tv/placetocallhome/series6

I had NOT checked ‘Acorn TV‘, on my Roku 3, for a couple of months. We have had plethora of other TV to watch during ‘Family TV hour’.

Last night, on a whim, I decided to check ‘Acorn’.

A Place to Call Home” Series 6 was being featured. That pleased me no end. I had thought that it would not be here till Thanksgiving, as was the case with Series 5 last year. I am glad I was wrong.

So, this evening we sat back and got ready to enjoy Series 6 Episode 1.

But, when they did their usual “Previously …” we were LOST. We didn’t remember any of what they were talking about. So, we went back to Series 5. Looks like there are 5 episodes we had missed, viz., 8 – 12. Not sure how that was possible. We watched Episodes 1 – 7 every week and we would have gone back for 8. My feeling is that they were added later.

NOT complaining. More to watch. And that is always a good thing with this addictive show. It really is worth watching. So many clever twists and turns.

So, we are happy. Especially Teischan. She loves it.

Received this comment today. Made my day. I liked the “Worked like a charm“. Wow. I am so happy. I can just imagine his/her relief. Nothing worse that installing a Roku and not being able to get it to work in full.

By far the most popular post I have ever done.

Glad I did. I did it because I had the problem and fixed it. Amazes me that Roku doesn’t address this up front. But, that is good for I.

‘Hotstar USA’, On Roku, Is But A Disgraceful Indian HORROR Show.

by Anura Guruge

The ‘Hotstar’ APP for the Roku is full of bugs!

For a start it lacks an account management option. I kid YOU not. Everything has to be done through your Roku account.

This means that renewals do NOT work! It is an unmitigated disaster. A typical Indian horror show.

It might be fine on a PC or phone, BUT NOT on Roku. Trust me on this.

Plus, watching the Vivo IPL on ‘Hotstar’ is near impossible.

‘Hotstar’ is for Indian kids with ADHD.

I am DONE!

YouTube Is Now Available On DISH Via An Hopper APP.

by Anura Guruge

I tried it out. It is there. You have to go into the DISH ‘Hopper’ Menu. They have a special, new entry, with the ‘YouTube‘ icon for the APP. Works. Works well. Good quality.

Just like the ‘YouTube’ APP on Roku. You can even sign into it with your normal account.

We had access to YouTube before via Roku. This is another option, and will save us having to switch from DISH to Roku.

Just to let you know.

“The Anglophile Channel” On Roku.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access their Website.

I just saw this in the weekly “Roku Guide” e-mail blast that I receive.

My adoptive mother was an Anglophile. I am NOT sure I can call myself an Anglophile per se. I am a very local, patriotic and homesick British subject and have been for 35 years. I think citizens are supposed to automatically be fond of their country.

This looks interesting, but not for I. I am not much into celebrities. I prefer to watch the show, which is why I subscribe to “Acorn TV” (below) on Roku. But, I just wanted to make sure YOU knew about it.

P.S., ‘Acorn TV’ is good and just a ‘few minutes ago we watched Season 2 Episode 2 of “Good Karma Hospital” on it.
