This article is not as precise as I would have hoped and I am not sure how up to-date it is. As you can see above, he was in major trouble with an ex-wife in 2016 & 2017. Not sure whether that was wife #1 or #2.
Did not know that he has a degree in finance, from Iowa College, from 1968. That is impressive. Just assumed that he had pursued a career in music all his adult life.
So, did you guess the two stocks?
AMZN (Amazon) & GOOG (Google, now Alphabet).
Yep. No doubt great stock. Yes, I own them too, but I am sure that I have no owned them for as long as he has or I have 1/1,000,000 the stake he has in them.
But, here is where I have a problem.
AMZN IPO was in 1997; Google’s in 2004.
Don McLean made the bulk of his money in the 1970s. AMZN and GOOG did not even exist then. We didn’t even have the InterWeb.
Does this mean he never owned any stock prior to AMZN & GOOG.
I somehow doubt that.
But, interesting. You can’t go from with these two stocks — especially after you have owned them for a few years.
So, he has done good.
I wish him luck. I hope his troubles are behind him. I like him a lot. ‘American Pie‘ is one of my all time favorites.

Last Boeing KC-135 Mid-Air Refuelling Tanker Left Pease Air Base, N.H., For Good, On Sunday.
Kind of sad. Definitely the end of an era for us in New Hampshire. The KC-135 Stratotankers had been such an iconic part of our skies for so long – especially if you were in or around Portsmouth. We don’t get to see too many large, 4-engines planes flying low over New Hampshire — the KC 135 invariably the lone exception.
Big plane, especially with the ‘new’ BIG engines. Loud too, very loud when taking off or coming into land. But, up there, either cruising or making an approach to Pease, whisper quiet, just a dark silhouette floating across the sky.
It is supposed to be a sister-ship to my all time favorite Boeing 707. But, it seems bigger, bulkier or brawnier. To be honest I haven’t set eyes on a 707 in decades. So, I could be wrong.
Well, we are supposed to be getting the replacements, the TWIN-engine Boeing KC-46A Pegasus, but not until November 2019. That is over 6-months away. Not sure what happens in the interim.

Body looks similar, but twin-engine as opposed to quad. This one based on the much, much newer Boeing 767.
