As far as I know, and as far as I can tell, this is the only fatal accident anywhere close to Acadia National Park in 2017 — so far. The prior major accident, on July 11, 2017, was non-fatal. Prior to that was the motorcycle crash, on Cadillac Mountain, September 4, 2016.
To be fair this was NOT inside the Park but it is as close to the Park as you can get without actually being inside. As you can see in the report, Park Rangers were at the accident to handle traffic.
Well known landmark. Hard to miss. Always crowded.
We were, of course, at Acadia over the Labor Day Weekend, this year — as we have since 2013. Traffic was crazy a couple of times BUT no accidents as far as I heard.
