It is a never ending procession of holidays in Sri Lanka. I think they have cut back dramatically but in the 1960s when each ‘Poya‘ day [i.e., full moon of EACH month] was a holiday it was said that Ceylon (as it was then) had a holiday (as in no school and no work), on average, every 18 days!

So last month was Vesak — the mega Buddhist ‘trifecta‘.

This month, June 13 (my deceased adoptive mother’s birthday), is Poson. Yes, July’s Full Moon, Esala, is another important Buddhist holiday too. We will get to that later. August too.
