Glasses or no glasses this ‘boy’ can bat. Hundred on ODI debut! Only the 13th batsman to have done that. Pretty select group with some famous names — but also conspicuous by the names that are not on the lost. Only one West Indian, dear Desmond Haynes, Gordon Greenidge’s longtime opening partner. Imam-ul-Haq is only the second Pakistani. No Sri Lankan has done it — as yet.

I watched the highlights reel for that 3rd ODI. Pretty gutsy, gusty and increasingly entertaining innings. At first I couldn’t be sure, underneath the helmet, whether he was wearing glasses. He was. I can’t remember the last batsman I saw batting in glasses.

Of course we all remember Clive Lloyd. He always wore glasses.

Gordon Greenidge wore glasses for a short time in the 1980s (when he was going through a rare rough patch). I remember him in his glasses. Here is a picture. You have to look carefully to see the glasses. Like so many others he then switched to contacts.

Face Injury Suffered By Sri Lankan Chamara Kapugedera, From A Lobbed Ball In The 3rd ODI, Is Horrific & Amazing!

by Anura Guruge

This is a screen grab from a YouTube video. See link below.

This is a better video. Click image to access.

I saw this last night while I was watching the highlights of that 3rd ODI, Pakistan v. Sri Lanka.

Couldn’t believe it on multiple levels. First and foremost that is quite the swelling and quite the injury. Wow. I have seen quite bit of sports injuries, having played a ton of sports in my prior life, but nothing like that.

The other thing I could not fathom was that it was not thrown at him. More of a gentle lob. Must have just hit him awkwardly.

Also not sure why wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella lobbed the ball at him. He is not the captain and he wasn’t due to be bowling. Very strange.

But, that swelling. That is something else.

India’s Winning ODI Series Against Australia After 3rd ODI Win — Leaves Me In Awe & Amazement.

by Anura Guruge

From Cricinfo. Click image to access their portal for this series.

Just two days, after watching the highlights of the Indians winning the 2nd ODI against Australia, I said that ‘they’, i.e., the Indians, looked invincible.

Then, a couple of hours ago, I watched the 3rd ODI. I thought Aaron Finch’s return, and his magnificent 124, had turned the corner for Steve Smith and Australia. Yes, the middle order dissapointed, but 293 wasn’t too bad of a total.

India just cruised to victory. Yes, there was a few tense moments BUT Dhoni hardly had to face a ball. Hardik Pandya is one heck of a cricketer. He is exciting to watch, batting, bowling or fielding. Can you imagine what his nickname will be in dressing rooms in Australia, England and New Zealand. As far as nicknames go it would not be one that is HARD to take!

What a bloody team. I am in AWE. Indians must be SO happy.

Is MS Dhoni Getting Too Old To Keep For India?

by Anura Guruge

Do NOT get me wrong. I am a HUGE fan of THE MAN. MS, of course, is a ‘God of Cricket‘ one of the all time greats. Nobody can ever take that away from him. What he has done for cricket — both for and the World — has been phenomenal. One of the COOLEST cricketers ever — and COOL in all senses.

All that said I fretted about his keeping in the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka on August 24, 2017.

Then, ‘today’ in the 3 ODI. Yes, at least twice he got bad bounces. But, Dhoni missed an EASY run out chance! Dhoni miss a run out chance?

In the these two ODIs he did miss a NUMBER of chances.

Of course given their total domination over Sri Lanka they can afford misses and to give away 50 extras.

My concern is for MS. It just looks bad. It makes me CRINGE!

I do NOT want to see MS look bad.

Of course I want him to play in his 300th ODI. He has earned that honor. But, play him as a batsman only.
