GPS Track of the short hike from my Garmin Fenix 5.
The operator of the “Cannon Aerial Tramway” told us about this hike and the great views from the top when we took the ‘tram’ on our jaunt up to “Franconia Notch State Park” on June 11, 2018, to do “The Flume“. We went looking for it that evening but ended up going the long way around the loop. Since we had already done a fair bit of hiking that day we called it quits but I planned to go back.
When “Father’s Day” rolled around 6-days later I got the chance. This time we went, for the third time, to “Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves“. After that we headed for “Artists Bluff”.
The start of the hike is across the road from “Echo Lake”. You park as if you are going to the Lake. Just keep on going RIGHT … RIGHT … RIGHT.
From the parking lot … RIGHT. Once you get to the trailhead always stay to the RIGHT. Right at the top, take a RIGHT (but that is clearly marked in red on a boulder).
Trivial hike, though there is a slightly steep bit — albeit with granite steps. Pre my GPS, it was ONLY 0.16 mile to the top! NOT much elevation either; 204′ per my GPS, starting at 1,928′ and going up to 2,133′. Teischan and I made it to the top in less than 10 minutes.
Great views. Nearly as good as you get from going to the top in the ‘Tramway’ and that can cost you $16.
Highly recommended. I will be going back.
