He was BIG in Britain in the 1970s and 1980s. I bought and read some of his books. I did like and still do remember A House for Mr Biswas.
Just the other day I noticed a stack of his paperbacks in my ‘basement’ storeroom — one of the many places in this house that I have stashes of overflow books. It was amazing that these paperbacks have lasted all these years. I was hoping to read him again, one of these days.
He is younger than I realized. I did NOT want to MISS his birthday. Happy birthday, V.S. Thank you.

Following the frightening spectre of Charlottesville and Donald Trump’s, hard to fathom, reaction I wondered how would react. I was HOPING he would use his PLATFORM to repudiate the President.
I kept on thinking: ‘what would Steve Jobs have done?‘
I would like to think that Steve Jobs would have been more demonstrative and vocal.
To be fair to Tim Cook these donations are a GOOD START but still wholly inadequate. Apple can afford BILLIONS not millions. Mobilize the platform, exploit the popularity. I am sure Steve Jobs would have done more. Trump would have offended Steve’s finely cultivated sensibilities.
Please Tim Cook — DO MORE.
We need folks like you to stand up.

I commented on this, ALREADY, yesterday itself, as it happened!
Donald Trump’s ‘no-tax’ claims against Amazon (AMZN) are BOGUS.
As of April 2017 Amazon is collecting Internet sales tax on shipments to ALL states that have a sales tax. That is an irrefutable fact. So for Trump to claim that Amazon has a ‘no-tax monopoly’ is wrong.
But his bellicose rantings is hurting Amazon, the AMZN stock price and Amazon shareholders — and I am one of them. I am NOT happy.
This is wrong.
I would be OK if he was not lying. This is illegal stock price manipulation.
Jeff Bezos should help us get a lawsuit going.
Trump’s gripe is really NOT against Amazon. He, irrationally, is MAD at the ‘Washington Post‘ but rails against Amazon because Jeff Bezos owns both Amazon and ‘The Washington Post’.

I guess it is ‘Fund Drive’ week at Wikipedia.
When I accessed Wikipedia on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, there was this BIG banner asking for a donation. I have ignored those in the past, but this time I felt that I really should contribute. I use Wikipedia EXTENSIVELY, at least once a day. So, it was only fair.
I am glad I did. While I invariably double-check Wikipedia information I am a GREAT BELIEVER that they are a handy and useful 1st source — to get me on the right track. Plus ‘they’ are getting better and better.
Just thought I will share this with you JUST in case it also inspires you to make a donation.

It sailed majestically into its home port, Portsmouth harbor, Hampshire (Hants.) on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. I was lucky enough to catch it on Sky News. It was quite the sight. Wow.
Something to be happy and proud about while Trump tries to lead the world into another war.
