It is indeed hard to imagine, but there are still ‘answers’ (to relatively simple queries) that you just cannot find on the ! Yes, it is quite incredible.

I ran into one yesterday. I thought it would be a piece of cake.

I just wanted to know the normal body temperature of an orangutan.

A pretty simple and straightforward query.

I just could NOT find it. I spent at least 40 minutes and I Google fast and intensely.

Finding that of chimpanzees was trivial. ‘ was slightly harder but could be located. NOT SO for orangutans.

I, however, lucked out.

I searched for ‘orangutans’ and found the “” (SSP). I sent them a message.

I had an answer (above) within 4 hours — from somebody who actually takes ear temperatures of orangutans. I was very grateful and in awe.

Why did I need this information.

Of course for a book I am writing.

I just needed to comment on how the body temperatures of the Great Apes, which includes us, stack up. Do we all have the same body temperature?

I deduced one thing — quite fast. Taking body temperatures of adult gorillas is probably not something that you want to do regularly.

Now with this post I have hopefully PLUGGED another hole that existed in the Internet!

She, i.e., Martha Tabram, is NOT considered one of the definite (i.e., canonical five). But, many suspect that she may have been Jack’s first.

Given the mystique that surrounds Jack this was worth recording.

Located on the highest point on Monhegan Island, the Monhegan Island Light, is impossible to miss. It is an iconic and compelling landmark just to the east of the dock/village and completely dominating the view above the village.

From my experience and I visited it at least 5 times, thrice in one day, it is not hard to get to — much easier than it looks.

Thanks to a tip from a local I found that cutting across the cemetery was the quickest way to get there — and you get the added bonus of being able to explore the historic and serene cemetery with some classic headstones. See map above. There is a latched gate that you have to open (and close behind you). The path to the top, not used much is overgrown BUT is definitely NOT difficult to traverse in either direction.

The view is rewarding. I did see one sunset from there. That was worthwhile. Despite my many trips I never made it to the museum — one of the reasons being that it closes around 3:30pm.

Path through the cemetery.

It is nice that we still have flowers given that folks have now started talking about the Summer coming to an end now that we are in August. Some of these I took in our yard. The others in New Durham.

Enjoy.
