‘Maine State Aquarium’ In ‘Boothbay Harbor’ — Looks Interesting.

by Anura Guruge

I had never heard of it. Deanna found it on the Web and sent me a link. Looks interesting for what it is — a Maine-specific aquarium with, naturally, an emphasis on lobsters. And its prices, e.g., $7 for adults & $3 for kids, reflects its specialized scope (and possibly its ‘non-profit’ intentions).

The kids and I have been to the ‘Oceanarium‘ in Bar Harbor (Acadia), Maine and learnt quite a bit — and enjoyed it too. Its location, right of the ocean, looks very inviting and interesting too.

This certainly does not look like the Mystic or Boston (i.e., New England) but it is not setting out to be so.

Struggling IBM Should End-Game Mainframes & Milk Existing Revenue Stream For 10 Years!

by Anura Guruge

IBM stock price Year-to-Date (YTD) — from MarketWatch. Click to ENLARGE and puzzle over.

Click to access MarketWatch article from July 19, 2017.

Last week’s IBM results was the 21st consecutive quarter of declining revenue! That is plainer English is 5.25 years of declining revenues in a row! That is bloody stupid. And all of that since Gin-and-Tonic Ginni Rometty took over as Chairman. Forget political correctness, she has to go. But, that aside.

It is time to stop being sentimental and emotional about IBM mainframes — and this from one who loves IBM mainframes and made a living thanks to those big, blue iron. But, you have to be realistic. Mainframes, FINALLY, after 53-years are on their deathbed BUT will keep going, without any sustenance, for another 10-year, MINIMUM.

That is the beauty of the LEGACY business. The legacy will continue even once the ‘legacy-maker’ is dead.

Developing new mainframes and mainframe features is an extremely costly business. IBM should stop ALL mainframe development efforts forthwith.

IBM has a rich and very profitable revenue stream of mainframe leases, mainframe maintenance and mainframe software maintenance. That revenue will continue as long as IBM keeps the mainframe running — via just maintenance.

Remember when Microsoft Windows XP, etc. are end-gamed. But people, including I, keep on using those operating systems. Well, it is much better when it comes to mainframes.

IBM can end-game mainframes tomorrow and mainframes revenues will continue to pour in for at least 10 years. But, IBM can save many millions, maybe even a billion, on development costs.

So, mark my words.

It, alas, is again that time of year — I have to go for my dreaded annual physical, where I will get told off for how unhealthy I am, and told to lose more weight, get my cholesterol down and that I should watch my diet. Given that I like to get much of the bad news done face-to-face I insist that I get my blood tests done before I go to meet with the doctor. So it was time to get my blood tests done. Hence, Huggins — despite them once screwing up my PSA test by stating that I was a woman.

Well going to Huggins on a Sunday morning to get your blood tests is not a bad idea. Place was deserted. Did NOT see a single other ‘patient’. No lines. Just I.

Huggins always has a good show of flowers in the Summer. So I was banking on taking some pictures. They have more in the back but I literally didn’t have the energy to make it to the back since I had fasted for 15 hours.

I was not planning to take any pictures of flowers in our yard today. Had already take some flower pictures in Wolfeboro. But, I was surprised at how lovely the flowers were and could not resist taking some pictures since our will be, alas, over soon!
