Trump’s Cognitive Test Memory Recall String Seems Very Contrived — Very Much Geared For Trump!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. This from ‘The New York Post’. Google for plenty more.

It struck me, as soon as I heard it, that it was SO, SO Trump-oriented. Trump-specific.

Camera & TV.

Two of his favorite THINGS. Easy for him to remember.

Woman, Man, Camera & TV. It can’t get easier.

Then throw in ‘Person’. Come ON.

This was a contrived, EASY string made up just for Trump.

Google Developing Coronavirus COVID-19 TESTING APP Using The Pixel 3/4 Camera AI.

by Anura Guruge

It is EXTREMELY clever and creative — as one has come to expect from Google.

No swabs. No blood tests.

You just cough onto the rear-facing camera. That is IT. You cough on the camera.

The APP software, using the powerful AI built into the camera module, will then ENLARGE and analyze the cough particles. It basically acts like a powerful microscope. Once it has your cough particles enlarged enough the AI software scans it to see if it matches the ‘fingerprints’ of COVID-19. It does this in seconds.

The test is said to be 76% accurate. So, not foolproof BUT better than nothing.

It is already being tested by the FDA and CDC for approval. The goal is that it will be available for download, from the Google Play Store, by this weekend. WOW.

Yes, and ALAS, it will initially only work with Google Pixel 3s & 4s. That is a shame. It is just that most other cameras do not have the hardware or software to support the necessary magnification.

P.S., It is recommended that you use a disinfectant wipe to clean the camera after the test.

I Switched To A Google ‘Pixel 4’ From A ‘Pixel 2’, Continuing To Use ‘Google Fi’ As My Carrier — And It Was Painless.

First 2 Pictures With The Google Pixel 4.

Confirmation on ‘Google Fi’.

The offer from the ‘Google Store’ I couldn’t turn down.

First Pictures of the Day with Google Pixel 4.

This, believe it or NOT, is but the 2nd (as in ‘second’) smartphone I have ever had! The Google Pixel 2, that I treated myself to at Christmas 2017, was my first. So, this was my first time transitioning from one smartphone to another. The only part that I was leery about was how things would work out with ‘Google Fi‘. Of late, I have had some issues with ‘Google Fi’ transactions and support and as such had fears that transferring my number from the Pixel 2 to the Pixel 4 might be problematic and that ‘Fi’ would force me to get a new number. Not so. That went very smoothly. I was glad.

Superficially, other than the unmistakable camera ‘cluster’, the Pixel 4 looks very much like the Pixel 2. But, that is deceiving. Quite different animals, both in terms of hardware and software — though I had Android 10 on my Pixel 2. The latest Android on the Pixel 4 doesn’t have the ever-so familiar ‘<< (back) & ο (home)‘ buttons on the bottom. You swipe-up for home. That works and I got used to that easy enough. I, maybe, even like that. ‘Back’ is more problematic. You have to SWIPE ACROSS the screen and, in my experience, it is hit-or-miss. I need to look into that further.

The camera works. That is ALL I can say for now. Pictures are ‘OK’. Haven’t seen anything spectacular as yet. But, at the same time, I have also only taken less than 30 pictures.

Pairing with my Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Titanium has been a HUGE problem. Very disconcerting. Yikes. Hope I can sort that out.

Face detection is cute, but also hit-and-miss. I re-registered my face. Might have to do it again.

So, therein lies the first 1/2 day so to speak.

I Ordered A Google ‘Pixel 4’ On Thanksgiving Day & Got $300 Off From The Google Store, With 0% APR.

by Anura Guruge

Oh, and I got 0% APR financing for 2-years!

How could I refuse? SMILE.

** ** ** ** **

The Google Store & I go back a long time — back to 2012 when I was one of the first to place a pre-order for the Nexus 7 pad. During the course of the last 7-years we have done much business.

I don’t care what folks say about the new Google Pixel 4. There is no other phone I would buy or own! Yes, I am a BIG fan of Google and Pixel phones. I had reasonably good luck with my Pixel 2 which I treated myself to for Christmas 2017. It was the first smartphone I owned. I used it mainly for the camera and by-and-large I have been reasonably happy with the camera. The Pixel 4 has an even better camera.

I buy Pixel for 2 main reasons: software and hardware! With Pixel, you, by definition, get the latest and greatest version of Android as soon it is released. Lot to be said for that. You also get the monthly security updates. So, there is that: Android software. Then there is also the Pixel camera software with all of its near-magical AI — and can I remind you of the fun I have had with the ‘Night Sight‘. The Pixel 4 camera software is supposedly even better.

Whereas folks are complaining about battery life on the Pixel 4, my experience has been that Google insisted on top-notch h/w components of its camera. You could tell. As some of you know I go through a lot of smartphones. Smartphones tax blacktooth, Wi-Fi and GPS hardware on the phone. The Pixel 2 always performed well.

So, that is why I am getting a Pixel 4.

Google tempted me mightily to get a Pixel 3 or 3a — earlier this year. But, I resisted. I knew I could wait until the new Pixel 4 with its new camera ‘bundle’. I hope I am amply rewarded.

Well, you will, of course, be able to see. SMILE.

P.S., I have been on Google Fi since Day #1 of the Pixel 2. Over the last month we went to the Google Fi GROUP PLAN, with 3 of us, now that they support Samsung phones. Yes, I will continue with Fi. Seems to work OK.

Flowers Of Hampton Beach, New Hampshire — May 12, 2019.

by Anura Guruge

NO post-processing whatsoever.

It was Mother’s Day and we headed off to the ocean at Hampton Beach despite the gloomy, cold weather. It was our third trip to Hampton — and as with the last two times we had a wonderful, fulfilling lunch at ‘Jumping Jack Java‘ — our new favorite eating place south of Portsmouth. Suffice to say, given the weather, Hampton Beach was not crowded. But, it was. Still a fair number of people. My first trip there with my new Canon EOS RP. Only took my 35mm RF lens. I wanted to get used to it. That it has a macro capability helped.

Given the unusually cold Spring all the flowers were not out — even on the coast. But, they had two displays. I captured as many to share with YOU. Enjoy.

My Storied Camera Saga — 13 Camera In 4.5 Years.

by Anura Guruge

Anura Guruge cameras owned saga

The good or bad news is that I have plateaued. I am not going through cameras at a fast rate anymore. Plus, following the acquisition of my Google Pixel 2 for Christmas 2017 I no longer feel the need to have two cameras — a big one and a compact. The Google Pixel is my 2nd camera. So, just need one full-frame camera at any one time.

I kept my Sony a7 II for 690-days and took 30,455 pictures with it. I also kept the mega-zoom Nikon P900 around for long time but did not use it much after the first 9 months or so. The zoom was nice but I had become fond of BIG sensors.

Getting to know my new, 3-week old, Canon EOS RP. Need a couple more lenses. Plan is to keep it for at least a year, if not more. It seems pretty capable. Goal is to hang onto the lenses. That is why I went (bcak) to Canon.

Sunday Buffet Brunch, In Winter, At The “Castle In The Clouds”, Definitely Looks Like A Winner.

by Anura Guruge

We, as you must have realized, are huge fans of ‘The Castle In The Clouds‘ and ‘attached’ ‘Carriage House Restaurant‘. We try to eat there as often as we can, but are also often thwarted in that they are so, so busy.

This is the first I had heard about these Winter 2019 Sunday buffet brunches. I am a brunch addict. This looks GREAT. I am going to try and go as soon as I can.

Just wanted to share it with you.

Happy New Year.
