A Sony Alpha a7 III: a7 II Full Frame With Sony a6300/6500 Sensor Technology?

Occurred to me the other night. The full-frame Sony Alpha a7 II now kind of plays second fiddle to the a6500 because of its new sensor technology (which, to be fair, is the same as that on the a6300).

Would have to assume that Sony is working on this. In terms of timing my guess (which is purely that) is a March 2017 announcement — probably with June 2017 availability.

Given that the MP size is 24MP what this means is that the a7 III pixel will be LARGER; 5.9 microns vs 3.9 microns on the APS-C sensor. And this is where things start getting muddy and murky. Some argue, passionately, that bigger pixels (also called greater ‘pixel pitch’) always translates to better pictures. I am not convinced — from a theoretical standpoint. Though I used 35mm I have never used a Full-Frame digital. So, I don’t have first hand experience.

Something to think about.
