This was insane. I have never seen so many Lupines in such abandon profusion. It was Lupines gone wild.
This was on ‘Great Cranberry Island’, in Maine, off ‘Acadia’, on June 27, 2017 — the 3rd day of our 8th trip to Acadia. This was my first time to Cranberry; having visited Acadia’s Isle au Haut in September 2015.
Contrary to what some claim the Lupine is NOT Maine’s state flower. Maine’s state flower, true to what can be a confusing state, is actually NOT a flower, it is the White Pine Cone. Go figure!
End of June probably is the right time for Lupines though I did not see Lupines in such volume on the mainland. Actually I didn’t see that many. So, it was interesting. I wanted to talk to some folks about it, but did not get the chance. Maybe on our next visit to Acadia in September.
