Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Was NOT Published On July 4, 1865 As Some Maintain!

by Anura Guruge

I get a daily e-mail from ‘Encyclopedia Britannica‘ about ‘On This Day‘.

I, however, no better than to take their word. I ALWAYS check events that are of interest to I.

So, I checked the Lewis Carroll’s ‘‘ claim.

Glad I did!

The next image explains it all.

So that is the REAL story. They did PLAN to publish it on July 4, 1865 BUT it did NOT happen.

So, Encyclopedia Britannica, got it wrong — THOUGH you would think they would double check before they send out these e-mails.

This is why it cracks me up when people Bad Mouth Wikipedia. In reality, Wikipedia has less errors and is more up to date than any of the older Encyclopedias — and I say that as one who has, since an early age, loved Encyclopedias and still has a printed set of the Encyclopedia Britannica.

Some of you who are not political junkies, like I, may not realize that the entire U.S. ‘National Park Service‘ ideal is under threat from Trump who plans to drastically cut funding and ‘de-classify’ many of the currently protected ‘National Monuments‘.

This Doodle, from invariably ‘Politically Correct‘ and very Liberal Google appears to be taking a dig, quite rightly, at the present Administration in D.C.

4th of July Google Doodles from years past.

2016 — A Festive 4th.

2015 — unique in that it did not have the word ‘Google’ in it.

2014.

Prior years.
