This still life exhibition which runs till this Sunday, January 10, 2016, was sublime. The BEST $5 I spent all Christmas — and that says a lot. Yes, $5 is what it costs to see this special exhibit on top of the $20 general admission to the very fine, very regal ‘Philadelphia Museum of Art’. One of the ‘receptionists’ (who did confess that she had not seen the exhibit) did tell Deanna that it wasn’t worth the extra $5 and that there were only two Andy Warhols — one of them his iconic Brillo Pad boxes. She was dead wrong. This exhibit was worth $25 on its own.
Awesome. The level of detail. The color, the composition. I was in awe. Immaculately presented with some fine writeups. Loved it. Being familiar with the ‘Hudson River School’ paintings I knew that there were some exceptional American painters from the 18th and 19th century. And that sure was the case. I learnt a LOT. The book that went with the exhibition was a huge coffee table production priced at $40. It was too big to be practical use to me. So I gave it a miss. But I plan to learn about some of these artists, example the amazing Peale family.
The museum does provide some excellent videos of the exhibit. Check them out.
This is also worth checking out.
