Jupiter Over New Hampshire: At Its Closest For 2019, Next Week; Largest Moons Visible With Binoculars.

Weather Will Permit.

Every year, given the orbital dynamics, the Earth and Jupiter are atypically close for a period of around 3-weeks. This year, Jupiter will be closest to Earth next week, i.e., mid-June, 2019.

When it is this close Jupiter is only 365 million miles away. At its furthest it is 601 million miles out. So, that is quite a variance.

It will be so close that you will be able to see Jupiter’s largest satellites with just binoculars. (Jupiter currently has 79 known moons!) Watching Jupiter’s moons is ALWAYS cool and being able to do so with binoculars is a bonus. Much easier than trying to follow them with an ametuer telescope (and trust me, I have).

The weather will cooperate on at least some of the days. So, make sure to check. Showers during the day and still give us cloudless nights.

Enjoy.

2019 Cricket World Cup: I Said It Last Week, Will Say It Again, Hashim Amla Is STRUGGLING.

by Anura Guruge

DO NOT get me wrong. I THINK THE WORLD OF Amla. One of the GREATEST cricketers ever.

But, that was then, and this is now and we are in the midst of a World Cup.

He is at sea against pace. His reaction time is shot. I understand. My reaction time, in cricket, always was what Amla’s is now.

Hate to see him struggling. You can see it in his eyes. The twinkle has gone.

DROP HIM.

But, South Africa, after losing 3-games out of 3, is unlikely to get very far in the Cup. So, maybe keep him on. Let this be his swan song. South Africa, I think, are done.

Not much I can add. A solemn day in the end. Day to reflect, a day to give thanks — that we are speaking English rather than German.

Please check ALL the ‘D-Day‘ and ‘Red Poppy‘ posts on this blog. The search box is on the sidebar. In those days I covered much.

Remember. Reflect. Rejoice!

Pope Francis Gives INTO Temptation And Changes The “Lord’s Prayer”!

by Anura Guruge

I wrote about this in December 2018.

HUGE change, but it will not be instantaneous.

It will first appear in the Italian Missal — which has yet to be published.

It will then take years before it percolates into the other Missals — especially English.

What is bothering many is that the Pope’s change will ONLY apply to the Catholic version. So, we will now have two versions of the Lord’s Prayer; the Catholic version and the non-Catholic version.

What fun.

However, as I said in my December 2018 post, I do AGREE with the pope (for a rare change).

She is all set. One, from the Governor, paid for 1 semester. That was a big help.
