An England v Wales Showdown Is NOW Possible At The Rugby World Cup 2019 — WOW!

by Anura Guruge

That was a turn for the books. New Zealand trounced by England at a World Cup — this time in Rugby. New Zealand did NOT look like the team that I had seen in the previous matches.

What was that statistic I heard — New Zealand’s FIRST World Cup loss since 2007! First loss in 19 matches. England last won against them in 2012 (albeit not in a World Cup).

So, this was quite sensational. Quite the match. I watched the (above) highlights TWICE — just to make sure.

Wales go in as FAVORITES.

So, we have a good chance. Fingers crossed.

Who do I support: Wales FIRST, England second. SMILE. At my core I am Welsh. SMILE.

Wales v England Showdown Is Possible At The Rugby World Cup 2019, But Unlikely.

by Anura Guruge

For it to happen now, both England and Wales will have to win their respective semi-finals this weekend. That would mean a England v Wales final. That would be great for us the British, but, alas, I just don’t think it will happen.

Why? The New ZealandAll Blacks‘ — defending Champions from not just the last World Cup, but the one before that too.

They have been awesome. Just magical to watch. While England, obviously, has played well to get to the Semis, I just have a sneaking feeling that the All Blacks will outgun and outrun them come Saturday.

But, we can keep our fingers crossed.

Feeding Seagulls — Permitted At ‘Hampton Beach’, New Hampshire.

by Anura Guruge

Despite the far from amenable weather, we went to ‘Hampton Beach‘, yesterday, for Mother’s Day — and as is our new wont had a lunch (and a very good one at that (as we knew would be the case)) at ‘Jumpin’ Jack Java‘. Then, we promenaded the ‘boulevard’. On the way back we saw a number of people casually feeding the seagulls. I had to stop and take some pictures.

But, that got me wondering.

Folks feeding seagulls at a public beach. That can’t be kosher.

So, at the next notice board I stopped to read it to see if there were any signs that said ‘No Feeding The Seagull‘. Nada. No signs.

We were walking by the ‘Chamber of Commerce’ office and stopped to inquire.

NO LAWS about feeding seagulls.

I guess this is ‘Live Free, Or Die‘ New Hampshire.

When I got home, I, of course, Googled. I was shocked. Being able to feed seagulls with impunity is quite common in the U.S. of A. WOW. I never realized.

I would have thought that feeding seagulls was a really bad idea. You are making associate humans with food. And I have seen seagulls attack humans. 45-years ago, on Mumbles Beach, near Swansea, in Wales, I had a seagull brazingly dive in and steal my piece of fried cod from the ‘fish-and-chips’ I had just purchased. I was not a happy camper.

I need to keep an eye on this. I am fairly sure that seagulls can be a real nuisance once them get used to too much human dependance. I will also have to check what the story is at other places — like Acadia. So, stay tuned.

Dylan Thomas, The Quirky Welsh Poet, Died This Day, Age 39, 64-Years Ago; November 9, 1953.

Though he died when I was but 3-months old, I in my late teens felt I had a special connection to him in that I lived in Uplands, Swansea — in “Uplands House“, no less — across the road from where he was born.

I outlined much of that in this December 7, 2015 post. I don’t see a point in rehashing it again. You can just read it in the older post. {Thank You}

This, from the obligatory and brilliantly done “Mummer’s Play”, captures very high quality of the costumes and overall production.

This red Welsh dragon was a Masterpiece.

Not sure why the two poles for holding up the large arms had to be so long. Maybe it was for balance though I have to think that the physicists that can be readily found in Cambridge could have come up with a way to make the poles shorter.

Great sequence.

Last week it was Christmas Revels, the ‘Welsh Celebration‘ by Cambridge Revels — and it was, as I had gushed, absolutely fantabulous.

This week it is OUR Revels — Christmas Revels, at the Dartmouth HOP, by Revels North and they are doing a ‘Scottish Bash‘. This really is Christmas for me. Welsh & Scottish Revels a week apart. To I, it does not get any better. Yes, of course, we have tickets. Front Row, Center — aisle (the aisle seat so I can more easily join the “Lord of the Dance”  ‘conga line’. Same seats that we have now had for the last 5 years. I paid a $xx premium in August to make sure I got them this year — $xx because I won’t even tell Deanna what it cost. SMILE.

Of course it will, as is invariably the case, be brilliant, exquisite, uplifting and rewarding. Revels is THE HIGHLIGHT of my Christmas — and Revels North is OUR annual revels.

So, as they did last year, to get us all in the spirit, they have, very thoughtfully and kindly, published the relevant lyrics and a video songbook. And as is always the case with Midas-touch possessed by Revels North they are of very high quality.

Savor and ENJOY.

Welcome YULE!

P.S., They have a section on ‘First Footing‘ and Hogmanay and for those that do NOT KNOW, THIS — this very blog — is now a preferred destination site for all things Hogmanay (as a quick search will testify); I being a seasoned (tall) DARK stranger First Footer in Glasgow for some years. Revels North, bless them, also, as shown in the Songbook do a spirited version of Auld Lang Syne. Again we serve as a font of information about the ‘Auld …‘ and how to do is properly, with your arms crossed.
