Garmin Adds Music To The Vivoactive 3 — Available By July 2018.

Now that Garmin, with the somewhat star-crossed Forerunner 645M, has worked out who to put music into their watches there is no stopping them.

We learned yesterday that they will be introducing a Fenix 5 PLUS range that has music — and today the announcement of the Vivoactive 3M at $299.99. The non-music Vivoactive 3 is now down to $249.99. I think that that is a full $80 — $100 cheaper than what it was when introduced last November.

Garmin had to do this to stay competitive with the Fitbit Ionic and Versa — not to mention the Apple smartwatch.

The issue, as has plagued Garmin of late, is going to be reliability. Music on the FR 645 was buggy and the Vivoactive 3, as I can attest, was far from reliable.

Challenging times for Garmin. It is getting squeezed on all sides by Fitbit, Apple, Samsung

I will, as always, keep you posted.

Fitbit Eating Garmin’s Lunch With The $200, No-GPS But With-Music, ‘Versa’.

This is beyond amazing and highly depressing. The Fitbit Versa does not warrant this level of interest and support. They have sold 1 million units — within a month! Sacré bleu.

How Fitbit outmaneuvers and outsells Garmin, on a consistent basis, is pretty incredible. It is all marketing.

90% of those that buy Fitbit have not ever heard of Garmin.

To be fair Fitbit got this right. No GPS, but music — and at $200.

The Garmin Forerunner 645, with GPS, is twice that!

So, if you don’t want GPS, this is quite the watch for $200 — given that it has 3 gyroscopes and an altimeter.

However, Fitbit stock is still in the doghouse. Garmin has done much, much better.

Do NOT, Repeat, ‘ DO NOT’ Waste $199.95 On A Fitbit Versa — You Will Regret It, Bitterly!

Just trying to help you out. The ‘Versa’ is a tarted-up (i.e., lipstick on a pig) Fitbit Ionic — WITHOUT GPS. The Ionic is a piece of junk and as such the Versa will be even worse — slower and with RANDOM, meaningless activity/health stats.

Don’t take my word. Google the ‘Ionic’. That the Versa doesn’t have GPS and the Ionic does is kind of ironic — in that the Ionic GPS stopped being reliable as of the last Firmware update. So, the GPS mileage is but a guess.

IF you are interested in a versa you are looking for a ‘mid-range’ Smart Watch with SOME activity/health tracking. Go on Amazon and search on “Smart Watches”. You can get much prettier watches with more functionality for less. There are some for UNDER $50. For looks, look at ‘Fossil’. I, alas, require a lot of tracking/running/steps-climbed/VO2 max, HR data plus GPS. So, I have to look at the higher end. {Smile}

But, I know this market, I know what is available. Versa is just a sham exploiting the ‘Fitbit’ name. But, those of us who are serious about this stuff KNOW that Fitbit is NOT known for their product quality or reliability.

So, why did I get an Ionic? It was desperation when my 2nd Garmin Vivoactive 3 died. IF I knew what I now know I would not have got it. I plan to replace it SHORTLY — as soon as Garmin gets its act together, {Smile}
