So Proud Of My Fellow Brits For Feeling The U.S. ‘Pain’ From Across The Pond — THANK YOU.

I was AMAZED then touch to see these U.K. demonstrations on TV.

Wow.

Thank YOU.

I am so proud of you.

If only we could get Boris to say some meaningful words. But, I understand why it is BEST if he stays silent.

Things are not good. It is a sad situation.

Thank YOU for the support. I truly appreciate it.

Coronavirus COVID-19 Death Rates Vary Significantly By State — New Hampshire Doing Quite Well.

by Anura Guruge

One thing is obvious. Death rate is higher when a State gets inundated.

That explains New York.

People are dying because they are not getting adequate care. Scary.

I am semi-numerate and could tell, at a glance, when it appears on TV, that the New Hampshire death rate was WAY BELOW that of New York. Drove me crazy that nobody was showing the percentages. So, I did it. I didn’t do it for all the States. Hence the gaps … indicated by black rows.

States with low cases — for now — have less deaths because they have the resources to treat the patients better. Pretty self-evident.

So. Thought you might find this interesting.

These numbers STILL REALLY mean NOTHING
since they are CONTINGENT
on the % of people TESTED.

They are ONLY meaningful IF enough people are tested.

These numbers REALLY mean NOTHING

Otherwise the Death % and Per Capita numbers are terribly skewed.

The figures for India obviously can’t be true.

The German numbers need to be looked at!

The U.S. numbers — again skewed by inadequate testing — are middle of the road.

They will go up over the next couple of weeks. That we can be sure of.

U.S. Coronavirus COVID-19 Death Rate INCREASED — As Of Yesterday.

TODAY’s rate compared to yesterday’s.

For yesterday’s post.

In reality U.S. rate might be actually lower —
IF more tests had been done to identify more cases.

So, these numbers and rates STILL reflect inadequate testing.

I didn’t do all the countries today.

Just U.S. and Italy.

The rate is going UP. Not good.

U.S. Coronavirus COVID-19 Death Rate Compared To Other Countries — NOT The Best; NOT The Worst.

Per total cases.

Highest rate to lowest.

Lowest rate to highest.

INTERESTING.

Italy’s death rate defines explanation.

U.K. NOT doing too well either.

Interesting to note those of Germany, Austria & Canada. Countries noted for good health care.

‘Vienna Blood’, On PBS & Amazon Prime, Relatively Good, But Not Brilliant — At Least As Yet.

by Anura Guruge

It is definitely NOT bad. Quite watchable. I guess I was expecting something ‘more’ — more gripping, taught and dramatic. That said, the first case, involving two murderers, and spanning the first two episodes, was quite interesting. Interesting twists. Quite clever. Very well shot. Makes a change to have a murder/mystery set in Vienna as opposed to the U.K. or U.S.A.

It is still being aired weekly. Earlier episodes are being streamed online — on PBS and Amazon Prime, albeit for a price.

Well, we plan to watch all the episodes. Seen the first two. Will watch three soon.

Sending A Letter, With TRACKING, To The U.K. Via The US Postal Service Is Pretty Damn Expensive.

by Anura Guruge

The keyword here is ‘tracking‘. If I didn’t want tracking I could have sent it ‘First-Class Mail International‘ which would have been much cheaper. But, you can’t get tracking with ‘First-Class Mail International’. You can send it registered but that costs about two arms and a leg.

So, ‘Priority Mail — Flat Rate Envelope‘ was my best option — but, it costs $35.65.

Damn, stupid letter to my corporate pension provider — JUST to confirm my address! They sent me this form, with my address, and I have to CONFIRM that address, have it essentially ‘notarized’ and send it back. IF they don’t get it, they STOP paying my pension! That is what got my attention. My UK corporate pension isn’t much in that I was only there, working, for 4-months over 10-years. But, it pays for my wine. So, I would be beside myself without it.

So, now you can see why I wanted tracking and was willing to pay that exorbitant price. SMILE.

Pension companies are as bad as the dreaded ‘Tax Man’. They always have you by the short and curlies.

U.K. Planning To Ban All Wild Animal Acts From Their (Travelling) Circuses.

by Anura Guruge

Kind of inevitable, I guess — and by ‘travelling circuses’ they mean any circus that is not performed, long-duration, in a permanent location.

Well, we have all seen what happened to the elephants with the ‘Barnum & Bailey and Ringling Brothers‘ “Greatest Show on Earth“. But, they continued to have a big cat act that distressed me greatly. I would close my eyes for the duration. I just can’t act.

But, I am, as some of you might know, strange about elephant acts! They do not bother me. Maybe it is because I grew up with elephants among us. Even had some mega-rich friends that kept elephants as pets. As long as they are well treated, elephants are like golden retrievers — just bigger and not gold. They like to please — provided you take care of them. We used to have the BEST elephant shows in Ceylon when I was growing up. So, I and elephant acts. We have a history, a context and yes, ambivalence.

But, I can buy ALL wild animal acts.

This would, however, permit dogs, horses, donkeys and I assume goats. That is OK. Dog acts do nothing for I. But, I know some folks adore them.

So, this is the state of play in the UK when it comes to circuses.

One MORE Female Zoo Keeper, The 6th To My Knowledge Since 2013, Attacked By Captive Big Cat; I Blame Hormones.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access my post. One of many. You can find links to the others on this post.

This has happened TOO MANY times of late for us to pretend that there is NO connection.

I get grief from women who think I am trying to prevent females from working with Big Cats. Not at all.

I am just stating something that you just cannot overlook. I am NOT an out-and-out expert but I do know some about Big Cats, females and female hormones. I have three daughters and currently live in a house with three females.

Female hormones are powerful entities. And if you THINK that a Big Cat cannot smell changes in female hormones you have been smoking some bad stuff for too long. That is my only point.

I think there is a hormonal connection.

I am familiar with, and have documented 4 instances of such attacks by tigers on female zookeeper, since 2013. They are: Dianna Hanson in California in March 2013, Renee Radziwon of Portland in November 2013, Sarah McClay in the UK in May 2013 and then Rosa King, at Hamerton Zoo Park, also in the UK, in May 2017.

That so many young female zookeepers are being attacked by Big Cats could, of course, all be but an unfortunate coincidence.

BUT, there is something else we should consider. These are all women were still of childbearing age. I think that there is an hormonal connection, something to do with ‘scent’ that tigers and lions can smell. IF you think they can’t smell changes to our scent due to hormonal changes, then you are probably not that familiar even with domestic dogs.

It is something, I think, that should be studied further. We might be able to save some lives of other female zookeepers.
