I think it will just about clear the tree line. This is just after 6am. Sunrise is not until ~7:15am. So, plenty of time.

Not for I. I will still be in bed. But, wanted to make sure that you early risers knew of this. Enjoy. Let me know what it was like.

All 3 2018 Christmas Trees Are In Place — 2 Yet To Be Decorated.

by Anura Guruge

Teischan (12), as I may have mentioned more than once, lives, unashamedly, for Christmas — and has for most of her life, once she worked out what it was all about.

She starts talking about Christmas in September and it was no different this year though she is a year older! She started nagging me about getting the Christmas trees at Thanksgiving. I kept on saying: “in December, in December“.

We bought our Christmas trees locally in Alton last year. They were not doing trees this year. Then earlier this week, driving through Rochester we saw a sign that said that the boy scout troop will be selling Christmas trees, for $35/each, on Saturday, December 8, 2018 (and for that matter the Sunday also). Seemed like a good cause and the price was not bad. So, I agreed that today would be the day for the trees. Looking back I realize that we are 3 days behind what we were last year. No wonder she has been complaining.

Got the trees from the Scouts. Good deal. Lots of adults to help and they insisted on doing everything. For the first time ever I didn’t have to do anything. They put it on the roof and even tied it down. I was impressed. Going back to them next year, though Teischan, a connoisseur of Christmas trees, is not too happy with the two we got today. She does have a point. They both have a bald spot close to the top. Not too serious. But she noticed.

Anywho, all three trees are now up. They will decorate and put up the lights tomorrow.

The Advent Is Here — Lego “Friends” 2018 Calendar.

by Anura Guruge

Yes, I did get the LegoFriends” 2018 Advent Calendar. It would have been a shame to break what had been a 4-year tradition. I did not give it to her till this morning. She was surprised. She had assumed she would not be getting one this year as she was too old. Well, that was a treat. But, I have warned her that this could be IT. The box clearly says ‘6 – 12’ and she will be 13 next Advent.

Different to the other Lego calendars. No scene to set up. Each gift is a Christmas ornament for a tree. See last image. It was a red heart that you have to assemble. So, each day a new ornament to make. She likes it. LUCKILY her personal Christmas tree was up. So, that was perfect. They could go straight up on that.

So that is what the 2018 Lego Advent Calendar looks like.

Advent 2018 Is Nearly Upon Us.

by Anura Guruge

It is Friday, November 30, 2018, and Teischan (12) is all set for the Advent. She has been counting the days for weeks! This afternoon she set up her old advent calendars from years past — along with the two, from this year, containing chocolates.

I got her a real nice wooden advent calendar today BUT, alas, she didn’t like it! So, I have put it up for sale. She, however, wants the money.

First Of The 3 Christmas Trees For 2018 In Place — 10 Days Earlier Than Last Year.

by Anura Guruge

The “American Girl Dolls” are also getting ready for Christmas.

Advent Calendars have been located THOUGH we have 2 weeks (14-days) to go.

Teischan (12), unashamedly, lives for Christmas — and has for most of her life, once she worked out what it was all about.

She starts talking about Christmas in September!

When she was younger we could dictate as to when preparations for Christmas would come. But, starting last year she has taken matters into her own hands. When she was little we waited until at least the first week of December before we started.

Not anymore. I see that last year HER tree went up on November 27.

Well, this year it was November 17 — 10 full days earlier. She also, with my help, brought down (from the space above our double garage) some of the outdoor christmas lights — which she intends to put up tomorrow. That is one neat thing. She insists on doing this herself. I (at 65) am off the hook.

We started listening to Christmas music, on the radio, on FM 94.9, earlier this week. They too keep on bringing forward Christmas.

Stay tuned. Christmas is still 38 days away and we have many rituals to perform and observe.

Merry Christmas.

A Brilliant Mars – Moon Conjunction Over New Hampshire, Saturday, June 30, 2018.

by Anura Guruge

The Moon does not rise above our trees till around 11:30pm. So, you have to wait for that. Gets better later it gets. Really cool around 1am.

You will still be able to see Mars and the Moon tomorrow (Sunday) and for a couple of days further. But, the Moon will NOT be as fool.

Mars is at a 15-year CLOSENESS, i.e., it hasn’t been this close to Earth in 15-years. So, it is unusually BIG.

Try and catch it. It will be worth it.

One Christmas Tree Already Denuded & Planted In The Snow — 4 Days Ahead Of Epiphany 2018.

by Anura Guruge

Today, January 2, 2018.

Christmas Day, 2017.

This is a RECORD first.

We are never this early in getting rid of the two Christmas trees — the third is artificial, and gets packed away.

As a Brit I am into the 12-days of Christmas tradition, with Epiphany, and January 6 as the last day by which to take down Christmas trees. Most years we are scrambling on January 6 to get this done.

This year was different. The trees were bothering our eyes. We had to look that up. Yes, Christmas trees can have LOTS of allergens, especially those that irritate eyes — especially in a household of contact lens wearers. Plus, this tree, despite getting watered daily had got very dry and brittle and we already have friends that have DIED from a Christmas tree fire — 3 years ago!

So, out it went.
