Christmas ‘Revels 2019’ (Cambridge), ‘An American Experience’ — Was ‘OK’.

Of course, by definition, going to Christmas ‘Revels’, at the mothership, in Cambridge (MA), at the sensually delectable ‘Sanders Theatre‘, is always a wonderful, rewarding experience — and last night, December 19, 2019, was no exception.
But, for I, an unashamed lover of ‘Revels‘ (who has seen over 20 productions, at least 8 of them in Cambridge), this was (alas) but just an ‘OK’ show. SORRY.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say it came in at 5.5. If you kicked me hard and said ‘be generous, it is Christmas, cut them slack’ — I would say ‘5.6’.
It (sadly) lacked pizzazz and joyousness. It was sombre and dragging. It felt tired and lethargic. SORRY.
Yes, the theme was that of the 1930s Dust-Bowl and it sure felt like that!
Kind of interesting. For whatever reason trying to do American theme Revels is HARD (though the 2016 ‘Acadian’ theme was a HIT, maybe because of its ‘International’ flavor). Check this out and as I wrote on the image ‘DITTO’.
Yes, each and every Revels cannot be a HIT, and if we don’t have mediocre ones we will never be able to truly appreciate the truly great ones. So, I am cool. Of course we will be there next year. Just hope they go back to doing a FUN European-themed one.

‘WordPress Theme Detector’ — Real Cool When It Can Find The WP Theme.
My friend Shane Selling, the drone master and PC whiz was here last night to clone and replace my c-drive — something I now do about every 18 months (both for resilience, potential added reliability and backup). As always we talked and looked at a bunch of stuff ranging from cars to e-mail servers. In the process he showed me this tool. Cool. Check it out. Alas it does not work on ALL WordPress sites — including most of mine!

Did You Know That You Can SCAN The Screen Of A Mobile Device — On A Scanner?
Yes, I know that if I can hit the ‘Power’ and one of the volume buttons I could get a screenshot of an Android device. But I have never done it and once I got one I still needed to get it to WordPress (i.e., this blogging platform).
Well a few minutes ago while chatting with a WordPress ‘Happiness Engineer’ about the cropped header on my new Panasonic Lumix ZS100 blog I really wanted a screenshot from my 10.1″ Le Pan so that I could show her what the cropping was like. Occurred to me that I might be able to scan the screen on my scanner! Couldn’t see what real damage it could do. The camera was off so the bright light should not have bothered it. Plus the Le Pan is on its last legs and I will be getting my new 10.6″ Dragon Touch X10 in a FEW minutes! So I tried.
It worked. I did scan in color but it came out b&w. But that was OK. It showed the cropping. So I achieved my goal.
Appears that with the theme I am using, EXPOUND, different types of cropping occurs depending on the size of the end device. On a 6″ header appears FINE with no cropping. On a 10″ the header is cropped! Well, I got around that, but that is another story.
For now the moral of the story is that in a pinch you can get a quick screenshot of a mobile device by scanning the screen on a scanner.
Yes, I know that I could have taken a picture too — with a camera.

Scan to ENLARGE and admire. Screenshot of my “Panasonic Lumix ZS100” blog — showing the amusing cropping.

Automatically there, gratis Roku, when I powered up my Roku 3, Saturday, May 9, 2015, pre-US Mother’s Day, to watch Day 2 of the Bangladesh v. Pakistan Second Test Match on Willow (via SlingTV). It was very pleasing to eye. Soothing. I, at once, knew it was new theme. Had to go find out. Cute. Well done Roku. Nice touch.
Happy Mother’s Day.

When I turned on my Roku 3 around 2pm on Saturday, April 18, 2015, to watch some cricket while I ate my late brunch I noticed, at once, that something was different. Rather than the rather peaceful, light blue, “Under Sea” theme — that I had paid all of $0.99 to get — I now had a “Star Wars” theme.
The Roku had automatically installed and activated it. I went into my ‘Themes’ setting and had a look. “Star Wars” had been added. My other themes, including the one I paid for was still there. I was cool. I don’t mind “Star Wars”. My son, now 23, was a HUGE fan. I saw most of the movies, with him, multiple times, and I have to confess, sheepishly if need be, that I have no clue what they were all about. Very clever and vaguely entertaining BUT I was never able to work out what it was all about.
Not sure if this is but a temporary promotion to plug their new “Star Wars” programming. Maybe the theme will automatically disappear in much the same way that it appeared. Just wanted to share with you.
