‘Period Poverty’ Bill, Spearheaded By Schoolgirl, Becomes New Hampshire Law — Something To Be Proud Of.

I am SO impressed, so happy. This is so pro-female, pro-children. It is great. I am so proud of her — Caroline Dillion. I do not know her but wish her all the best and hope she goes far. Maybe a FUTURE president. She will be good.

As a father of three daughters, who still lives in a house with three females I surely can relate to this. SMILE.

That there could be kids in the U.S. that don’t have access to these essential products is criminal.

I am so glad that New Hampshire is putting this right.

I have no idea. But, what will it increase my property tax bill by — $10/year. I, for one, am happy to pay. I will even pay more. SMILE.

Reading about this MADE MY DAY!

Alton (N.H.) Property Tax Rate Up By 8.8%!

by Anura Guruge

I got the Town of Alton (New Hampshire) property tax bill for December 2018 and it seemed high. Much more than I was expecting. So, I checked it against the prior bills.

WOW!

A 8.8% increase with no change to the assessed property values. No wonder the bill seemed high. It is HIGH. The school again. Funny thing is I can’t recall reading or hearing about a major increase to the tax rate.

I realize that most people don’t see the increase per se. Their property tax payment is included with their mortgage payment. But, they will see it at some point and it will be a shock.

Well, I have given you a heads up.

We have had higher tax rates, BUT valuations were lower. It is the COMBINATION of the two that adds up and counts.

Alton, N.H. Property Tax Rate For 2016 – 2017 Is 14.15, Down 0.12.

The good news is that it did NOT go up!

As far as I know there are no new property valuations afoot either.

So property taxes will come down, in Alton, a TAD.

But, the bad news. The way that New Hampshire property tax is ‘posted’ and paid, i.e., 1/2 year in arrears (so to speak), most of us will get a tax bill for December 2016 than we not be that different to what we had in July 2016. So, be prepared. Do not expect a big drop. You will be dissapointed.

Alton taxes will be due by December 14, 2016.

Deanna heard about this on NHPR this morning and conveyed it to me with my morning coffee. She told me to look it up. I did. And now I am sharing.

Given that we encounter the horrendous road works everytime we try to get to or through Alton, does anybody know WHO is paying the BIG BUCKS for that totally overblown Route 28 (West) project. Definitely looks like good money for ol’ rope. Somebodies pockets are being richly lined. But this mindless project started before the gas hike.

Since I do believe in paying my taxes July 1, alas, is indelibly etched in my mind as ‘2nd tax payment day’. So today’s tax bill didn’t come as a surprise. I already had July 1 marked in my ever cluttered head. I had even put aside some money to help me pay this bill. It is a few dollars more than what I paid in December but that has to do with a vagaries of how this, the 1st tax bill of 2014, is calculated based on what your 2013 tax bill was.

Well, just a head’s up. I know many of you don’t get the bill directly and that it goes instead, directly, to your mortgage company. No such luck for me.

I called up the Alton Tax Collector and got the rates.

So that is how it compares. Biggest drop, 16 cents is the school portion. The retirement of the Prospect Mountain School building bond reduced a total of 68 cents. Those of you who can remember that far back may recall that in February-March of this year we had quite a few brouhahas about that number because the ACS SAU kept on factoring that reduction in when stating what the new bond would cost us. Read this post and check the newspaper article referenced. So, the school budget did go up, by $0.52 I guess. The -$0.68 help offset it and keep it to -$0.16.

Tax bills will not be mailed until Thursday or Friday of next week, i.e., November 14 or 15, 2013.

Gilmanton tax rate dropped 9.7% from last year. So, if you were looking for a comparison.

Alton, N.H. 2013 – 2014 NEW Property Tax Rate Is Supposedly $13.44 vs. $13.68 Last Year.

clairvoyantThis is per a comment posted against my last post. I cannot vouch for its veracity.

I can only ONLY go by what is PUBLISHED on the State Website. And as I clearly stated,  I checked at 4:50 pm, and included a screenshot, Alton did NOT appear in the list.

I also JUST checked the Town Website. Can’t find rate on it.

Suffice to say the Town hasn’t told me anything though they know that I visited the Town Hall twice and made two phone calls asking for the rate.

So, I do not in any way feel bad that I did NOT know the rate — as a comment indicates.

I have, despite my manifold talents, never claimed to be clairvoyant. You can go check.

IF I can get it confirmed I will let you know.
