(Catholic) Cardinal Elector Demographics Snapshot — February 27, 2021.

by Anura Guruge

Today, Sudanese Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako turned 80 & as such ceased to be an elector.

We are now down to 127-electors. Still 7 too many!

9-days from now, on March 8, 2021, Cardinal Napier will also turn 80. That will bring the number down to 126 — barring any deaths.

Then there is a hiatus till June before the next elector ages out.

I will keep you posted.

(Catholic) Cardinal Elector Demographics Snapshot — February 22, 2021.

I am getting serious about working on the ‘Next Pope‘ — i.e., Pope Francis’ successor.

The way I work I need a good Excel spreadsheet of the Cardinal Electors so I can slice-&-dice various criteria. I used to have a ‘magical’ spreadsheet of the whole College, chock-a-block with data. But, I let it lapse.

It was too much work to get it up-to-date. It was easier just to create a smaller, simpler spreadsheet, this time just restricted to the Cardinal Electors. I did that over the last few days. You can see a fragment of it above. Now that I have it I can give you INSTANTANEOUS demographics. It is all automated.

We will have an elector, Cardinal Wako, aging out this Saturday. We will then be down to 127 electors — still 7 ABOVE the 120 permitted at a conclave. Cardinal Napier will age out 2-weeks later. But, we, barring deaths, will not be down to 120 till April next year. SMILE.

Over 8,000 Published Posts On This Blog, viz. NHlifefree.com

I kind of knew that this was creeping up on me.

This will be the 8,003rd published post. Over the years — around the last 5 years — I have probably deleted around 60 posts. So, this number only reflects what is currently published — as opposed to a running count.

The very first post on this blog was made in June 2009. So, it is in theory, 8-years old. If we go with that, that is 1,000 posts a year, 2.7 a year.

In reality I did not start using this blog, in earnest, till the Summer 2012 London Olympics. That says it is close to 5-years old. That would give us ~1,500 posts/year, 4 a day.

Here is a statistic that blew my mind. IF you only do one post a day, it will take you 21.9 years to publish 8,000 posts!

It is also sobering that there were periods during this time when I maintained multiple blogs — the now defunct ‘popes-and-papacy‘ key among them.

1,209,034 HITS as I write this.

That would mean that on average each of my posts got 151 views. Well, that is NOT the case. That is just statistics.

But, all said, I can live with 8,000+ posts and 1,209,034 HITS.

P.S., When I was at around 7,000 posts, I was told by WordPress that this was exceptionally high for a single-user blog — i.e., 99.99% of those posts were written by I.

WordPress.com YET Again, 4th Time In 2016, Experiencing Stats Reporting Issues.

Very frustrating. I know by 10am IF WordPress is having issues — and now they, i.e., WP, knows that I know when they are having issues. SMILE. No consolation. Just a heads up.

WordPress.com YET Again Admits To Problems With Its Stats.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here. From Twitter.

This is the 3rd time that WordPress.com has ADMITTED to Stats problems in a MONTH!

December 17, 2015.

January 8, 2016.

And now January 17, 2016.

This is not acceptable. I love WordPress.com, of course, but this drives me nuts.

WordPress.com Again Having Problems With The Stats.

by Anura Guruge

Essentially the same problem we, i.e., WordPress.com bloggers, were having mid-December 2015 — and I talked about here. It was a server problem then and most likely that is the same problem now.

Notice it says I have had ‘1’ Visitor and ‘164’ Views.

Yes, of course, that is possible and on my ‘Orgasm blog’ I do see such patterns on a daily basis with some visitors doing 30, 40 or more views per visit.

But this is how I can PROVE, irrefutably, that the ‘1’ Visitor number is wrong. Just look at my ‘Views by Country’ — and for reasons of space I only show the first 6 countries.

The SAME one visitor cannot be from MULTIPLE countries. Right? You do get that. QED.

If it only listed one country then the ‘1’ visitor could have been right.

The stats are wrong and have been for the last 48 hours. As I have said before I have a fairly good feel of my stats (and I have thing about numbers and stats).

Unlike in mid-December I do NOT have a way of getting this confirmed by WordPress.com. I am not getting their “Can I be of help?” prompts of late. They cycle through their HUGE user base with this. So my window is gone for now.

Just wanted to give you a heads up. Very frustrating.

It has now become customary for the Vatican to publish these
Catholic statistics for the host country
ahead of each papal visit.

They typically tend to be slightly optimistic
and about 9 to 18 months out-of-date

— given that they insist on using numbers that they maintain in Rome
as opposed to those available directly from the country.

It had been 10 weeks since I last saw TEN Cricket.

It really was good to get TEN Cricket on my TV last night.

I only got to watch 50 minutes — a 60 minute (I think) highlight package of the June 30, 2013 WI v. Ind match from the Tri-Nations Series. It was a good match.

I immediately noticed that TEN has made some interesting changes to their broadcast — none of it good!

Display of run-rate and strike-rate statistics have been pared down to the bone.

When a batsman is out and is walking back and they show his innings you no longer get his strike-rate for that innings! You get score, number of balls, minutes and how dismissed. No strike-rate. That is crazy.

You also don’t get frequent updates of run-rate — current or required. Just occasionally.

This might have been just for that match — and it was a 60-minute highlight package. But basically there was a dearth of key statistics — the stuff we had come to expect: run-rates, strike-rates.

I will monitor this. Not sure what we can do. So this is just a heads up.
