Ahead Of Pope Francis’ June 28, 2017 Cardinal Creating Consistory — A List Of All 61 Prior Consistories Since 1900.

by Anura Guruge

I had let this very informative Cardinal Creating Consistory Excel spreadsheet lapse after Pope Benedict XVI’s last in November 2012. That it was out-of-date always bothered me. So, I rectified that over the last few days. I also rationalized and simplified it. There is more work required BUT this is good start for this version.

I wanted to share it with you. Shows some interesting trends.

I plan to do more posts specific to the upcoming June 28, 2017 consistory over the next few days. So, stay tuned.

New Hampshire (N.H.) 2016 – 2017 Property Tax Rates: Highest, Lowest & Everything Else.

by Anura Guruge

New Hampshire property tax rates Anura Guruge

As I did for last year, i.e., 2015 – 2016, I am going to do just this ONE post and update it as more and more towns report.

So ideally anybody and everybody looking for 2016 – 2017 New Hampshire property tax information will always end up at this post. OK? Clear? Thanks.

As of December 12, 2016, 225 towns had published their 2016 – 2017 Property Tax Rates. (As always I have excluded the (exotic) N.H. Townships, Grants, Locations and Purchases that had $0.00 tax rate for the year. Wikipedia has a list of all these N.H. ‘exotics’. The other, non-zero exotics have a grey background and a (U) notation.)

This 225 list (marked ‘Final’ by the State) constitutes our ‘full house’.

PLEASE note that these property tax rates in isolation are MEANINGLESS unless you also factor in the relative property values of the towns. Please read this post. Click image on right to ENLARGE.

All the data used from the NH Department of Revenue Administration Tax ‘page’.
For 2015 – 2016 they have a new Website. The data provided and the format is a bit different.
They have included a ‘dashboard’ to try and make it easier IF you understand their lingo.

After A 5 Month Hiatus I Finally Updated My Master “College of Cardinals” Excel Spreadsheet.

by Anura Guruge

I have been very negligent on the “College of Cardinals” front!

There are limits to what I can get done in a day.
And of late it is my papal work that suffers.

But over the last 3 days I made a concerted effort to get
MY spreadsheet up to-date, accurate and verified.

I think I am in good shape now.

It is NOT a small task.

This, albeit reduced, is what it looks like.

2017 Rates Now Available.

New Hampshire property tax rates Anura Guruge

For 2015 – 2016 I am JUST going to do this ONE post and update it as more and more towns report.

Previous years I did a post each time there was a fresh batch of data. Given that people find these posts, in the main, via search engines they would invariably end up at an out-of-date post.

Hence this approach. So ideally anybody and everybody looking for 2015 – 2016 New Hampshire property tax information will always end up at this post. OK? Clear? Thanks.

As of December 12, 2015, 238 towns have published their 2015 – 2016 Property Tax Rates. (As always I have excluded the (exotic) N.H. Townships, Grants, Locations, and Purchases, e.g., Bean’s Grant, Bean’s Purchase, Cambridge, Atkinson and Gilmanton Academy Grant, Dix’s Grant etc. Wikipedia has a list of all these N.H. ‘exotics’. I exclude them because they typically do not have a bona fide tax.)

I consider 229(+) towns as our ‘full house’. So at 238 is GOOD.

PLEASE note that these property tax rates in isolation are MEANINGLESS unless you also factor in the relative property values of the towns. Please read this post. Click image on right to ENLARGE.

Well, as I have shared with YOU a few times I applied for my Social Security pension now that I (to my utter amazement) lived to see 62. I don’t care what all the so called experts claim, I was NOT going to wait a day beyond my 62nd birthday. Waiting any longer seems very stupid and shortsighted. As the saying goes: “A bird in bed is worth four at the bar”.

I went to the local Social Security office, in Concord, in June, and did all the paperwork. Yes, they made me jump through some hoops but I managed.

I was TOLD that since I had two eligible kids under 18 that they too can get some of the benefits. I did not complain. I, over the years, had paid a lot of money into SSA.

Well, I have yet to see a check (let alone a proper cheque) BUT my first one is said to be on Wednesday, November 10, 2015. There were some scuffles along the way but eventually it appeared that I was all set. I do have a letter to say that — though I know it means diddly.

So that was June. We are now in October. 4 months.

Not a word about the kids benefits.

We have called 3 times — and it has to be ‘WE’ since they will only tell Deanna the information about the kids!

Last but one time we called, in September, we were told that ‘they’ will start looking into the kids’ benefits on October 8, 2015. On Monday, October 26 we called.

We were told that they have to MANUALLY compute the benefits because Deanna is on disability and that this could take 3 months to complete.

That blows my mind.

How can any computation, even by hand, take 3 months? We are talking about computing the value of Pi to trillion decimal points.

This is beyond STUPID.

Tell me the parameters and I will create an Excel spreadsheet for them in a few hours.

Amazing. Amazing.

New Hampshire (N.H.) 2014 – 2015 Property Tax Rates: 40 More Towns Report, But Not Alton.

Alton is not alone. The fully tally of towns is 224 — or that was what it was last year. Today, November 7, 2014, we have 143 towns reporting. So we are 81 short — Alton plus 80 more.

Last year, i.e., 2013, we had the 224 in on November 9th.

Well Sunday is November 9th and we know that these numbers will NOT get posted over the weekend. They get posted on Fridays. So it will be November 14, 2014. So at least 5 days behind. If Alton makes that cut, as it probably should, they still wouldn’t be able to get the tax bills out before November 20th, if that. So, joy of joys, Alton property tax, for those of us that bother to pay, will be due just before Christmas.
