The Downside Of Being A Habitual Overachiever — At Least When It Comes To Walking!

I honestly have never set out to be an overachiever. I actually find it an unattractive trait! I relate much better with underachievers — because in my mind & heart that is what I am.

But, when it comes to walking, I can’t help myself. SORRY.

It is my MORTAL dread of being sick. I don’t like the inconvenience of being sick.

SO, if I can minimize my chances of becoming sick — DIABETES & obesity (which go jowel-in-cheek) my main & eternal fear — I will put in the steps that I can.

So …

2,020 miles for the year. Yeah, IF I basically give UP walking.

SMILE. Don’t hate me. My life is already hard.

Sri Lankan Bowler Lahiru Gamage Wouldn’t Be Out Of Breath Bowling In Delhi If He Lost 20 Pounds.

I have been meaning to comment on this for quite few months.

Quite a few of the Sri Lankan cricket team carry too much weight around their belly — classic Dahl belly.

Being even 10 pounds overweight makes a difference when playing cricket at the Test level. You are on the field, when fielding, for 6 – 7 hours.

Gamage is the worst — and he is supposedly a fast bowler (though I think he is more medium pace, than anything else).

Him getting sick in Delhi was understandable. He is too fat. Yes, I, given that I too am 20 lbs overweight, should not be complaining, BUT I am nearly 65-years old and no longer playing cricket. [Though to be fair I was fat when I played cricket.]

Anywho …

Gamage needs to go on a low-carb diet.

This seems quite the dynamite article even for the intrepid folks at the U.K. “Daily Mail” who are always willing to go out on a limb in order to keep us enlightened and entertained.

I am willing to buy, to an extent, that intelligent people are more willing to take care of themselves and have the capacity to watch their diet better etc. But I think we all know exceptions. My adoptive father was one of the most intelligent people I knew and he was overweight all his life. But, on the other hand, he wasn’t sick that often. 

Food for thought. When I saw this on Thursday morning I wanted to make sure I shared it with YOU.

I got this begging e-mail this morning. I get such e-mails from Opus Bono Sacerdotii on a fairly regular basis. I used to get very fancy, expensive looking mailers — yes, of course, asking for money — in the mail, but they have stopped given I never responded to them. Have a read. Two of the Catholic priests in dire straights are supposedly such because of medical conditions — and nothing else (such as molesting kids). So the Catholic, the Catholic Church and the Pope just abandons them when they have back surgery or arthritis. I though Catholic priests in every sense were meant to be MARRIED to the Church. So what happened to ‘in sickness and in health’?

So what is YOUR take? I do NOT get it. I did NOT think the Catholic Church just abandoned priest.

OK. I do know that this group does help Catholic priests implicated in sex abuse and other sex crimes. Two things on that. Of late, on the issue of forgiving Catholic women who have abortions scores of Catholics have been shouting at me that forgiveness is at the CORE of their belief. So why doesn’t the Pope, the Catholics and the Church just forgive these ‘accused’ and take care of them? They were or still are Catholic priests? In this e-mail they are ALL Fathers, albeit with very generic names. So they must be priests. That is my second point. If they are being called ‘Father’ they should be a priest. If they are a bona fide priest it is incumbent on the Pope to take care of them. That is my take. IF they are not priest they should masquerade as priests.
