“Shetland” Detective Series On ‘Britbox’ & ‘Prime’ — Just Amazing, The Best Of The Lot, Better Than ‘Vera’!

by Anura Guruge

Yes, I know that it is probably sacrilegious to say ‘better than Vera‘ — BUT, it is! We, as always, serendipitously, stumbled upon it on ‘Britbox‘ when they started advertising Season 5 (a couple of months ago). We watched Episode 1. It was good. But, we had to wait a whole week to see Episode 2. That was good too. We were hooked. Couldn’t wait another week. So, we watched Season 4, which was also available on ‘Britbox’ — all the way through. Loved it. Better than ‘Loch Ness‘, ‘Then There Were None‘ etc. etc. Better than Vera. Did I already say that?

Then went back to Season 5. Now we were hooked.

Found Seasons 1, 2 & 3 on Amazon Prime. You had to buy them (and they were NOT ‘cheap’). But, hey … you have to pay for quality. So, we watched all of that too.

We have watched ALL of it. Now we are lost.

Very, very good show. Amazing stories. Very good acting. Great drama. Breathtaking scenery. Fast moving. Cleverly done. Must watch.

Highly recommended.

The Diary Of Anne Frank

“A Place To Call Home”, The Australian “Downton Abbey”, NEW Season 6 + New Season 5 Episodes.

On “Acorn TV” in the U.S. acorn.tv/placetocallhome/series6

I had NOT checked ‘Acorn TV‘, on my Roku 3, for a couple of months. We have had plethora of other TV to watch during ‘Family TV hour’.

Last night, on a whim, I decided to check ‘Acorn’.

A Place to Call Home” Series 6 was being featured. That pleased me no end. I had thought that it would not be here till Thanksgiving, as was the case with Series 5 last year. I am glad I was wrong.

So, this evening we sat back and got ready to enjoy Series 6 Episode 1.

But, when they did their usual “Previously …” we were LOST. We didn’t remember any of what they were talking about. So, we went back to Series 5. Looks like there are 5 episodes we had missed, viz., 8 – 12. Not sure how that was possible. We watched Episodes 1 – 7 every week and we would have gone back for 8. My feeling is that they were added later.

NOT complaining. More to watch. And that is always a good thing with this addictive show. It really is worth watching. So many clever twists and turns.

So, we are happy. Especially Teischan. She loves it.

“A Place To Call Home”, The Australian “Downton Abbey”, Season 5 Is Nail Bitingly Gripping.

by Anura Guruge

I have never watched Soap Operas so I don’t know how intense they get, BUT Season 5 of ‘A Place To Call Home‘, now on Acorn TV, is gripping beyond anything I have seen on late.

Puts “Indian Summers” to shame, and “Downton Abbey“, with all of its exquisitely crafted drama, never, in my opinion, had so many suspenseful storylines in parallel. Whoever the writers are they are GOOD. Definitely knows their craft and audience. Bravo. Yes, of course, there are a few patches when the storyline and dialogue sags. But, that is to be expected.

Australians should be proud.

I, confess. Until I came across ‘A Place To Call Home‘, which I have been hooked on since Season 1, I thought that the only good TV that the Aussies could produce was live cricket! Now I know better.

“A Place To Call Home”, The Australian “Downton Abbey”, Season 5 Premieres On “Acorn TV” On Thanksgiving 2017.

We are addicted to this show and have hungrily watched each and every episode, sometimes 2 or 3 at a sitting. Teischan went back over the Summer and watched it ALL — all over again — on her own.

We discovered this Australian series, serendipitously, on ‘Acorn TV‘ (on our Roku), in 2015 and were hooked as of Episode 1. We think of it as an Australian “Downton Abbey“. Good storyline. Has you both rooting for various characters and in ‘suspenders’. Very watchable.

Teischan will be so excited.

Kind of cute. Season 4, last year, also premiered on Thanksgiving Day (albeit 2016). So, Acorn is kind of teasing us. That is OK.

This made my day. Yippeee!
