You can’t escape it. It is everywhere and all over. There is an abundance, bordering on superfluous. Yes, I am blasé though I try not to be and make a point of stopping to smell the roses and take a picture or a dozen. Well, that fact that I take this many pictures is proof alone that I do appreciate it. Well, I spend more time outside, walking, in the woods, than most. So, I do get to see a lot. I am not complaining. Soon it will be all gone. I know that.

I did not go for a long walk yesterday. It was my day-off. I have a system; three-days on, one day off. The foliage seems to have peaked within the last 48-hours. We also had 24-hours of light rain. That refreshed everything and the light wasn’t as harsh. It was pretty amazing. All within EASY walking distance of home. So, I don’t have to drive around to see foliage. Just walk. Enjoy.

We Have A Fairly Serious Drought In New Hampshire — And Nobody Is Talking About It.

by Anura Guruge

Yes, we have had rain over the last few weeks, but it hasn’t been much and it has been well spaced out. We haven’t had any decent rain in some time. I first noticed the dropping water levels in the lakes on Thursday, September 19, 2019, when I hiked the backroads of New Durham while Teischan was volunteering at the Library. Noticed that a small lake I walked by was noticeably low.

Then yesterday I walked past this ‘local’ (to I in that it is just 1.5 miles from home) pond that I am very familiar with. It was nearly dry. Never seen it this empty and at a minimum I walk by it once a month.

Not good. Nothing to panic as yet. Plenty of ground water. That I know. Plus we will have snow within the month!

But, I just thought that somebody should be paying more attention. Now you know.

2019 Cricket World Cup: English Rain Is Going To Make This World Cup A Mockery.

Three matches rained off ALREADY and they are expecting MORE rain this week — never mind the two weeks ahead.

I gather no other ICC Cricket World Cup had 3 matches abandoned due to rain.

There is one thing that we all know: it RAINS in England. That was a given. Arranging this tournament without a rain-day provision was ludicrous. It is going to distort the rankings and thus make a mockery of the whole World Cup.

Sri Lanka is racking up more points thanks to the rain than they were likely to get by playing these games.

West Indies could suffer.

South Africa is doomed, methinks.

This is CRAZY. I am NOT happy. Plus, I haven’t seen any cricket in 2-day! Yikes. Having withdrawals!

Taken on my perambulations, dodging the rain, in Alton (walking the dogs) and in Wolfeboro, at a very sodden ‘Huggins Fair‘. You may have noticed that I haven’t done a ‘flower’ post in over two-weeks. Well, I had to rectify that. Enjoy.

‘Huggins Fair 2018′, Wolfeboro, N.H. — SODDEN, Saturday Evening, August 4, After The Deluge.

I have been going to the ‘Huggins Fair‘, invariably without fail, for 26-years. It is one of our cherished annual events — going there late on Saturday evening and staying till late.

I have never seen anything like what I saw today. It was beyond sodden. I have, in Ceylon, seen drier paddy fields! Folks were walking in the mud in bare feet — but even then there were places you did not dare venture. The book tent was a mess. I just couldn’t go in. It was way, way, way too muddy.

We had seen the rain and expected that it would be a bit soggy. Nothing prepared us for what we encountered. I had taken the precaution of wearing waterproof shoes. That was not enough. You needed tall Wellington boots.

Though it did not rain while we were there and I met some folks we knew, I was not amused or happy.

The mud just sapped away my enthusiasm. I did NOT buy a single book! That is a record. I just bought two hand-grip exercisers for $1 (and I was being generous) as I could have got them for 25 cents and $7 worth of braised BBQ beef. That was it. I came home with a fair chunk of money in my pocket. That never happens. Typically I spend $60 to $120 at this Fair.

That they were so unprepared was strange. It isn’t like rain is a stranger to this Fair. They should definitely CHANGE their sign. That bold ‘Here RAIN or Shine’ seems like a challenge the rain can’t resist. And to think that they have a severe drought around Canyon de Chelly.

Boston Chinatown “Chinese New Year 2018” Dragon Parades Are Sunday, Feb. 25 — BUT, Heavy Rain.

by Anura Guruge

In past years we have had BLIZZARDS — e.g., 2013 for the Chinatown New Year.

This year, for Boston, it is heavy rain, 5″ – 8″ snow for us.

The Dragon Parades won’t be fun in the rain.

Yes, you could watch them from a restaurant, but that is NOT much fun.

Plus, Chinatown isn’t exactly car friendly and parking, even outside of New Year, is hard. So, you really need to walk.

So, a heads up. If you plan to go on Sunday you will get soaked.

They are serving Dim Sum, at China Pearl, on Saturday. I called and checked.

I can’t, however, get any sense as to whether there will be any Dragon Parades on Saturday. I SUSPECT that there might be — because of the Sunday rain. But, I could be wrong.
