40-Minute Eversource (PSNH) Power Outage In Alton (NH) — June 18, 2018.

by Anura Guruge

It was from around 7:05 to about 7:45pm, on Monday, June 18, 2018. We, in Alton, New Hampshire, were having but light rain — but we know there were thunderstorm to the South of us.

We were watching Episode 2 of “Anne Frank Diaries” on Acorn TV went all went dark.

We were the first to call to report an outage.

To be fair to Eversource (a.k.a. ‘Eversore’) this appears to be the first outage we have had since November 29, 2017 — i.e., 201-days!

WOW. 201-days.

In November 2017 we had three (3) outages in the month.

Well, I am not complaining.

On January 3, 2018, in anticipation of the “Bomb Cyclone” snow storm we had got a new generator — our 3rd. This was meant to be a backup for the other two — we needing two generators to power up 70% of the house.

Well today was the first time I got to use the new generator, a 7,000-watt Troy-Bilt (from Lowes), with electric start, in action. Once I remembered how to start it, it started first time. [I have now put a sticker on the switch I need to have on ‘ON’ before the electric starter kicks-in!]

So, that alone was good. I like to run my generators for 30-minutes every 6-weeks or so to prevent rust. So, this achieved that.

Glad power came back ….

I was expecting it to be out till the early hours of the morning.

3rd Eversource (PSNH) Power Outage In Alton/Barnstead (NH) This Month!

by Anura Guruge

This was totally unexpected. It had been a warm, sunny day.

Then, BANG, 2:09pm — LOSE POWER.

Third time this Month, November 1, 8 & 29! When I did the above calendar I realized that they were all on a Wednesday.

Coincidentally we had also lost power on November 29 three years ago — in 2014.

We were without power for 3.5 hours. Not funny. They said power was likely to be restored 3:45pm. At 4pm I hooked up our two generators. Power was back around 5:30pm.

Eversource (PSNH), Another 2 Hour Outage In SW Alton, This Time On Sunday, December 18, 2016.

by Anura Guruge

1408163640_670eacaa1c_bAnother frustrating Sunday evening outage my bloody Eversore — when the weather outside wasn’t that bad.

Last major outage, also for 2 hours, on a weekend, was on Saturday, October 21, 2016 — 58 days ago.

As with last one I am not sure that this one was warranted. There really was NO wind, rain, snow or icing. Pretty calm.

I really resent Bloody Eversore.

Eversource (PSNH) 7.5 Hour Outage In SW Alton On Sunday, September 11, 2016 A SHAM, A SCAM & Shameful!

by Anura Guruge

eversource

Most of the time I understand, I appreciate and I applaud Eversource/Eversore/PSNH for their efforts.

Not so TODAY.

This was a SHAM.

This was a SCAM.

This was SHAMEFUL on the part of Eversource.

Yes, we had a MINOR Thunderstorm that went through — around 9:30am. Yes, as forecast it was fast-moving and it was GONE within 10 minutes.

At least in Alton it wasn’t that strong.

It did NOT bring down any trees. Mainly TWIGS. At most a few branches.

That it took Eversource 7.5 hours to restore power on a BEAUTIFUL Sunny Summer day is disgraceful.

There is no excuse.

If this was in January and we had snow, ice, cold weather etc. I would NOT complain.

This was NOT right.

Bloody Eversource/Eversore.

We were OK. We had BOTH generators going. But it is still NOT bloody right.

Second MAJOR, MORE than 7 hour Eversore outage this Summer.

The last one, 13 bloody hours (thankfully most of it at night) was on July 24, 2016. 49 days ago.

Eversource (PSNH) 13 Hour Outage In SW Alton From 6pm July 23 to 7pm July 24, 2016.

Though we knew that the storms were coming the Eversource (née PSNH) power outage that started around 6pm on Saturday, July 23, 2016 caught us off-guard BECAUSE we didn’t experience any wind. Just rain and it wasn’t even hard. The storms were to our South. This happens to us. We, at the VERY EDGE of Eversource’s service area, lose power when things look pretty calm at our end. To begin with we didn’t think it was ‘serious’. It was daylight … So I didn’t bother with the generators. Deanna called up and reported the outage. On the first call we got a recorded message that indicated that the outage should be fixed by 7:30pm! Wow. The lights did come on for a ‘second’ around 7pm and then go off.

Come around 7:30pm, and still now power, I had enough. PLUS I hadn’t run the 2 generators in awhile — and I like to run them for at least 30 minutes ‘once a month’ to prevent ‘rust’. So I decided I might as well kill two birds … So hauled the generators out with Teischan’s help. Worked the first time which is always gratifying. I kept on expecting the power to come on. By 9:30pm I was not amused. But we are lucky. With the two generators cranking we are 80% functional. We even had Wi-Fi. Then we started hearing that the outage would continue till Monday THOUGH I knew that there was some leeway and poetic license there. Nonetheless I turned off the generators at 11pm and went to bed.

Power came back on at 4am and we were glad. Went back to sleep. Around 6:20am, Sunday, July 24, our alarm system started beeping to say that power was OFF! Ahhhh!

I kind of had a hunch that Eversource was waiting for 7am. I was right. Just before 7am the power came on. There was some slight flickering but it has stayed on.

From what I can tell, NOT counting the Brownouts on July 6, 2016, this was the first Eversource outage in our neck of the woods since February 5, 2016. 169 days.

First outage of over 4 hours since Thanksgiving 2014.

Eversource (PSNH) Multiple Power Outage (Brownouts) On July 6, 2016 In Central New Hampshire — Worrying.

by Anura Guruge

eversorejuly62016

If Eversource knew the cause it would be one thing. Them claiming that they are INVESTIGATING is worrying. Simply put is ‘somebody’ messing with our power? Just think about it. They have said, for years, that we could face an attack on our power grid. So …

Not good.

IF Your Eversource (PSNH) Bill In May Is $40 – $200 Higher … Do NOT Panic!

by Anura Guruge

IF they have your e-mail they should have sent you an e-mail a few weeks ago. Eversource (‘Eversore‘ as I call them) are transitioning towards ‘Automated Meter Reading‘. This has screwed up when the February reading was done.

So rather than your bill being for the usual ‘month’, i.e., 28 – 34 days, the March bill could be for a 40+ day period. Mine was for 41 days. So that explains the ONE-TIME spike (hopefully).

So check your bill. Check the date range and it will say so.

From my March 3, 2016 “6 Images Post”. What a NEW ‘Meter Read Remotely’ meter looks like. This was for a closed for the winter lake cabin.

Eversource (PSNH) Power Outage February 5, 2016 & MetrcoCast Internet Outage February 7 in Alton, New Hampshire.

by Anura Guruge

If nothing else I try to keep track of power and Internet outages, in Alton, New Hampshire, for my ‘record’ and edification.

Friday, February 5, 2016 was when we had the ‘unexpected’ (i.e., less than 12 hours notice) ‘big’ snowstorm — kind of the first of 2016 (after our unusually long stretch of above normal temperatures). There was an Eversource (nee PSNH) power outage around 9:30 am, that lasted for about 75 minutes, in Alton. We rolled out and hooked up the generators. To be fair as far as I can remember, and per my records (i.e., blog posts) this was the first time we had to hook up the generators since the 23-hour power outage at Thanksgiving 2014!

So to be fair to Eversource that is not bad. 435 days without a major outage. That is pretty good.

P1030476I try to roll out the generators ‘once a month’ and run them for about 1/2 hour. Folks tell me that this good. And I have done this for 6 years. So just two weeks ago I had gone through the ‘warm up’ drill. When doing so I recalled that I had not had to hook the generators up in a long time — 1 year 2 months.

So that was the Eversore (as I call them) outage. February 5, 2016.

Today, Superbowl Sunday, February 7, 2016 MetroCast had an Internet outage around 1:45pm. Actually two. The first a short blip followed by a full-blown outage. It was probably down for 30 minutes. I don’t know. I left, went and had my ‘brunch’ and watched cricket, South Africa vs. England 2nd ODI on Willow, via my Roku 3, using our TDS connection. When I finished brunch and came up I saw that all the lights were flashing on my Motorola Surfboard. So I knew MetroCast was back up. Working fine now. So another heads up.

Had a letter in the mail, today, offering me this 8.99c/kWh rate for the remainder of 2015.

Well, what have I got to lose. In December, when their rate goes up I will just switch back to PSNH as I did in December 2014 from ENH when their rates went up 44%.

Just wanted to share this with YOU.

Yes, the Eversore/PSNH rate, right now, is indeed 10.56c/kWh. I double checked. So the NAP rate is lower — at least till December 2015.

So think about.

I have been using Alternate Suppliers for about 4 years now. You just have to stay on top of them.

OK? I will keep you posted.

All the best.
