‘Heart Rate Monitors USA’ Is NOW Selling Refurbished ‘Garmin Forerunner 235s’ (With GPS) For $79!

My post from 4-months ago.

At $120, in June (for Father’s Day), it was a GOOD deal. Even more compelling now.

The Garmin Forerunner 235 (GPS) is a nice, capable, competent watch. I have had it. It is kind of cute. Very light.

This is a GREAT deal. Honest. Check it out.

Yes, HRM USA is reacting & responding to Amazon’s “Prime Day” — which in reality, especially this year, is like a ‘Prime Month’. SMILE. As an Amazon shareholder (of longstanding) I am, however, not complaining. SMILE. HRM USA does sell on (& via) Amazon.

Amazon Delivery Is Running The U.S. Postal System (USPS) Ragged.

by Anura Guruge

If you are dedicated Amazon shopper, as I am, you will, no doubt, have noticed BIG changes in Amazon’s shipping habits as of December 26, 2015 — yes, the day after Christmas. And this is irrespective of whether you are a Prime Member or not, though Prime Members may have noticed that we went through a couple of months, at the start of 2016, when Amazon was both leary and cute about initially committing to the ‘Shipping Date’ — since 2-day shipping ONLY starts as of when the product was shipped, as opposed to ordered.

The BIGGEST change, and it is very obvious, is that poor UPS, was no longer the preferred carrier. Deliveries by UPS plummeted. However, chatting with my UPS drivers (which I habitually do) we have come to the conclusion that Amazon still uses UPS for all deliveries that contain (fire hazard) Lithium batteries (which means most modern digital cameras).

Much of what was delivered by UPS is now coming via USPS. That is good and bad. The good part is that you now have Saturday deliveries. That is nice. UPS (typically) does not work on Saturdays other than around Christmas.

Heavy stuff is sent via FedEx and they too will deliver on Saturdays.

But handling the UPSURGE in Amazon packages appears to be overwhelming the Postal Service — particularly around here. On Saturday we had TWO (2) USPS deliveries. One at the normal time (~1:30pm) for our usual mail and one small Amazon package. Then our regular postman arrived at 4pm — on a Saturday — with a large ‘ShopVac’ vacuum cleaner we had ordered!

Then today, Monday, we had a delivery at 7am by USPS. 7am! Suffice to say that that was without the other mail. So we had another delivery around 1pm.

It has to be wreaking havoc at the USPS.

My UPS driver just told me (given I had a delivery from ‘Home Depot’) that he saw our regular USPS mailman driving out of the Alton Post Office this morning with a LARGE Amazon package strapped to his ROOF!

This is getting hilarious. So just a heads up. Oh! Amazon did use UPS last week to handle the extra volume due to the July 12 ‘Prime Day‘.

Amazon “Prime Day” 2016 Will Be Tuesday, July 12.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here.

Last year it was on July 15, 2015 — a Wednesday.

So they are keeping it essentially to “week after July 4th“.

I know that a lot of people were NOT impressed with last year’s “Prime Day”. To be honest I really did not bother. There was nothing that I was really looking for.

As I have often said, to I, Amazon Prime is just worth it for ‘Amazon Video‘ and the ‘2-day’ shipping.

So ‘Prime Day’ is a kind of bonus.

As of Tuesday, December 8, 2015, Amazon Prime started offering a slew of ‘premium’ TV channels on a monthly subscription fee basis.

As far as I can see all these TV channels, 25 in total, are being offered on a 1-month FREE ‘try-it-and-see’ subscription basis and Amazon, cutely, does NOT specify the monthly price for any …

But here are the prices to the best that I can work them out. The subscription for Acorn (which I already subscribe to) is the same, at $4.99, as what I pay through Roku.

The Starz and Showtime prices at $8.99/month are not bad.

1. Starz =  $8.99 per month

2. Showtime =  $8.99 per month

3. Acorn TV =  $4.99 per month

     (per ascending order of price)

4. Fear Factory = $2.99 per month

5. RingTV  = $2.99 per month

6. Dove Channel = $2.99 per month

7. Warriors and Gangsters = $2.99 per month

8. Monsters and Nightmares = $2.99 per month

9. Film Forum = $2.99 per month

10. IndieFlix Shorts = $2.99 per month

11. Comedy Central Stand-up Plus = $3.99 per month

12. LifeTime Movie Club = $3.99 per month

13. DramaFever Instant = $3.99 per month

14. ScreenJunkies = $4.99 per month

15. Shudder = $4.99 per month

16. ConTV = $4.99 per month

17. Cinefest =  $4.99 per month

18. Tribeca Shortlist = $4.99 per month

19. UMC =  $4.99 per month

20. CuriosityStream = $5.99 per month

21. HooplaKidz = $5.99 per month

22. Acacia TV = $6.99 per month

23. SundanceNow Doc Club = $6.99 per month

24. Ello Concerts. = $7.99 per month

25. Gaia = $9.95 per month

jetsignawdsadI had never heard of Jet.com! Yikes! Not sure how that happened. I just read about them while scanning the investor news on Amazon on ‘MarketWatch‘. Yes, I have a couple of shares of AMZN.

Wow. They reckon that they can undercut Amazon by 10% to 15% — after you part with a $50 membership. I think I just got 3 months FREE membership. I pay $99 for Amazon Prime and I will probably keep on paying that JUST for the free video. So I am cool with that.

Given that we do 95% of our non-grocery shopping online, and 95% of that is on Amazon, 10% to 15% savings can add up for us. But to get back the $50 membership you have to first spend around $450 (depending on whether the savings are 15% or 10%). So I need to think about that AFTER the free membership. Yes, a new camera might be in my future. A 10% saving on a camera will definitely pay for the membership and more.

So I will keep you posted. They go live tomorrow from what I can see. Sign up now. You can still get free membership.

Amazon Prime Is Worth $99/Year For ‘Instant Video’ — Irrespective Of “Prime Day”.

I dragged my heels for years before I finally broke down and signed up for Amazon Prime earlier this year. I got it mainly for the free 2-day shipping. I got fed up of waiting 10 days to get the non-Prime free shipping from Amazon (on orders above $35 (used to be $25)).

Soon afterwards, totally independently and with Amazon Prime not a consideration, we got a Roku 3. Then we discovered Amazon Prime Instant Video. Hundreds oamazonprimef FREE movies and TV shows — including “Downton Abbey”, “Mr. Selfridge” etc. We were hooked. We definitely have got our monies worth just on the videos and we use the free shipping at least three or four times a week. That I just saw that they have the Jim Corbett “India: Kingdom of the Tiger” is just an added bonus. As a pre-teenager, in Ceylon, I discovered the Jim Corbett tiger hunting books. I read every one of them. I still have one copy from the 1960s in my “most favorite of books” display shelf! So Amazon Prime has worked for us. I haven’t used the music download capability but Devanee has started using it over the last few weeks. So that is another plus. The free Kindle sharing thing is a sham! Only works IF you have a Kindle device. That is naughty.

I did ‘waste’ an hour or so looking at ‘stuff’ during today’s “Amazon Prime” day. Yes, I will confess that I really didn’t need anything per se today and that was probably a major factor. There were some interesting and fairly well priced items. But they weren’t compelling enough. I don’t think that was entirely Amazon’s fault. I just wasn’t in the mood. The one DSLR camera they had was not of interest.

But, I will be an Amazon Prime customer for years to come. That I am an Amazon shareholder is also a factor. The Amazon share performance this year has more than paid for the $99 I needed for the membership.

I try not to buy from Walmart.com. Yes, I do shop Walmart brick-and-mortar. But Walmart.com is NOT Amazon. For online shopping Amazon is trumps.
