The Lilly ‘Trulicity’ TV Commercials For Diabetes Are So Farcical That They Are Insulting.

by Anura Guruge

I have seen a few of these Trulicity commercials on TV of late and they have made me see red.

Diabetes is something I live with every day. The reason I exercise and watch my diet (though not that successfully of late) is for my diabetes.

Then I see these bloody ads.

Every SINGLE man shown is very overweight if not obese. Of course they are going to be diabetic. Obeseness is a leading cause for diabetes.

Lose 40 pounds before you even think of Trulicity.

Lilly should be ashamed.

35-years ago Eli Lilly (in the UK) was one of my networking customers. They were a great company that I enjoyed dealing with. This is BELOW the Eli Lilly that I knew and respected.

Lose the weight.

A Selfie — Of My Personal, Unfiltered Self-Image.

by Anura Guruge

Click pictures to ENLARGE.

This statue, at the ‘China Pearl‘, in Chinatown, Boston, ALWAYS reminds me of what I think of myself.

It is NOT of the laughing Buddha — that a contradiction in terms that I will not get into here. This guy in going on a picnic.

This is how I have seen myself all my adult life — fat (actually obese), grin on my face and a flagon of wine at the ready. Not a great life, but the wine helps with the grin.

I Got A Garmin Vivoactive HR Activity/Fitness Tracker.

by Anura Guruge

So, I got a Garmin Vivoactive HR from Best Buy on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. I chose this model for the Heart Rate Monitor and GPS — though I have yet to work out how to use the GPS. I bought in from Best Buy, rather than Amazon, because I used a bunch of Reward Points which meant that I didn’t have to pay much for this tracker. But NOT buying anything from Best Buy again — especially since I used up all my Reward Points.

On May 25, 2017, I had got Deanna a FitBit Alta HR.

I did NOT get a FitBit because I have never had much luck with FitBits — whether with their devices or their STOCK! I had reluctantly bought some FIT shares, right after the IPO, because a then 14-year old shamed me into doing so, he being extremely gung-ho.

I am not new to fitness trackers. The first FitBit I bought was at Christmas 2011.

But after I threw my original FitBit away I had lost interest and was not following the technology.

Then in mid-May we had Shane Selling my exceptional computer guy and Drone whizard. Of late Shane has become a fitness fanatic and is extremely fit. He was wearing a FitBit Alta HR. First time I had been up close to a FitBit in 5 years. I was vaguely impressed. Deanna more so.

Shane, the nice guy he is, took his FitBit off his wrist and put it on mine.

I was IMMEDIATELY shocked by how high my heart rate was! I nearly had a heart attack. It was in the 80s. It should not have been.

That is when I decided that I need to get an activity tracker with heart rate monitoring.

I got Deanna a FitBit Alta HR the next day BUT spent 2 weeks researching the technology. Hence the Garmin for I.

I need to get back into shape and LOSE SOME WEIGHT! I am borderline obese and not happy about that. Oh YES, I have been MUCH HEAVIER but I am not proud of that.

It is helping. A LONG WAY TO GO.

Ironically, because of my ‘Day-Off Schedule’, some school appointments and rain I have NOT gone for a run since I got the Garmin. That will get rectified tomorrow.

I will keep you posted.

Please, Please Remind Me Never To Buy Anything Again From Bloody Best Buy!

Anura Guruge FitBit Garmin Best Buy

Having gone for 5-years without one I have yet again decided to get a Fitness/Activity tracker. I am extremely unfit and borderline obese and really need to do something about it. I have my dreaded annual physical in a couple of months and the doctor is going to yet again, as they do every year, crucify me. More on all of this later when I actually start wearing the tracker.

I was an adopter and fan of FitBit having got the first one at Christmas 2011. But, then we had lots of issues with it. There are LOTS of FitBit posts here, on this blog, if you want to read about the whole sorry saga. FitBit was new to the market and they really did want to help and fix the problems. I think they send us a total of 3 FREE FitBits to appease my displeasure.

I am NOT getting a FitBit, though I did get one for Deanna, from Amazon, two weeks ago. I am getting an Garmin.

I had quite a few unused Best Buy Reward Points from when we bought the refrigerator in April.

So, rather than ordering it from Amazon, as is my wont, I decided to get it from BB and use the points — because that way it was nearly free.

I was supposed to go to Concord on Thursday for a meeting, and as such agreed to a store pickup in Concord. All of that was fine.

The meeting was postponed to next week.

I am going to be in Portsmouth tomorrow. So, I thought it would be a simple deal to have them change the PICK UP.

Oh, BLOODY NO! They essentially have to cancel the order and start again — with a credit back to my credit card etc. 3-4 days for the whole transaction to finish.

My fault. But, it is OK.

I will never have enough reward points to want me to order anything from this accursed company.

Now I will have to make a trip just to pick up the Garmin.

‘Naked Restaurants’ Don’t Sound That Appetizing — Though Weight Restriction Is A Good Idea.

This just seems taking a cliché notion to the extreme. And then you find out that they make you wear paper underwear! Ah! Seems like an oxymoron. Don’t get it.

I could just about understand and condone topless restaurants — gender independent. But naked with paper underwear seems distinctingly unappetizing.

But love the notion of keeping the obese out. I wish they would do that at U.S. all-you-can-eat buffets! I had heard stories that some planned to charge overweight folks more. But something has to be done. Definitely puts me off my food — which is NOT a bad thing. Smile.

So this study, paid for by The National Institutes of Health (NIH), after studying data from close to 6,000 survey respondents, concluded that lesbians have more than twice the odds of overweight and obesity as heterosexual women”. OK, we will buy that — but I am not sure I would pay $3.5 million to just learn that. I think ‘we’ have all observed that there are indeed quite a few lesbians that are on the BIG side.

But this study only goes as far as this when it comes to even coming close to looking if there are any causal relationships — For instance, it has been suggested that bisexual women’s physical appearance is influenced by having a male versus a female partner. Yea? Well, tell us more.

What comes first and I know that that is indeed a touchy ‘PC’ issue. But that is what would have been worth $7 million to study.

Think about it — but best not for long.

This “Global Warming” In New Hampshire, With 43F In June, Is Really Getting Very Old, Very Fast.

How anybody who lives in New Hampshire, and is not a total couch potato who never ventures out, can still believe in Global ‘bloody’ Warming defeats me.

It has been BLOODY cold in New Hampshire for the last 2 days — and those that know me, and know that I will still go running in 5°F weather, will know that IF I complain of it being cold, it is pretty serious.

This, my friend, is NOT right and there is no damn, frigging Global Warming in sight — at least not in frigid New Hampshire. I would LOVE some Global bloody Warming. I need to renew and top up my tan. Relying just on tanning creams becomes and expensive and messy hobby.

Yes, of course, we have seen Climate Change BUT that is because the DISTANCE of the Earth’s orbit, from the Sun, has changed! You did NOT know that did you? Most people don’t. Why, the Earth is getting lighter despite the increase in obese folks, worldwide. Yes, I need to write about this in detail — but I don’t have the time. It is the Earth’s weight, of MASS if you want to be pedantic and scientific, that is changing. Greenhouse Effect is NOTHING. It is the distance from the Sun that counts. Remember I do know my astronomy

Check these out. It is June 2nd and I am forced to wear sweats — though sweating is the last thing that is happening around here.

From ‘Weather Underground‘ — a very good source for local weather data. Click to ENLARGE, check out and be amazed.
