December 17, 1903.

This has to be treated as one of the most significant dates of the 20th century and a red-letter day in all of human history.

The day we mastered powered flight and took to the skies. We haven’t stopped since then.

It seems ironic that this very day, 114-years later, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the world’s busiest airplane terminal, was crippled by a power failure as if to remind us how much we now rely on air transport.

They had chosen Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, for its consistent breeze and its forgiving, sandy beaches.

Who was piloting the plane had been determined by a coin toss.

This post is for whoever was doing a search on this, as it pertains to New Hampshire, this morning. I am glad you found my original post, which was about the repealing of the adultery law, where I mentioned in passing that New Hampshire, thank ‘somebody’, does not have an “alienation of affection” law. It probably did at some point. Most likely it was the law in most states at one point. Very puritanical. Thou shall not mess with somebody else’s marriage. It is kind of Biblical. Extrapolation of the adultery law.

I remember, growing up in Ceylon, where we, per British law, still had “Breach of Promise” (of matrimony) on the books. So you can see the logic.

It is amazing that “alienation of affection” is still around in some states. As far as I can see, and PLEASE do not take my word on this, check in your own state, the ONLY states that still permit lawyers to file such lawsuits are: North Carolina, Illinois, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Dakota and Utah. I think it is, however, most prevalent in North Carolina. That is where I heard about it — and how and why I heard about it does not warrant discussion here. It was kind of amusing.

To be fair it, like adultery, is an equal-opportunity law, with no gender bias. The affection being alienated can be that of the husband or wife. There have been some hefty settlements in North Carolina.

I can only smile, though I am sure if you live in one of the states that still has this archaic law on the books you probably don’t think it is funny. But then again it is best not to mess with other people’s marriages.

Of course I am delighted. Also impressed that they confessed and decided to do the right thing. That is always good.

But, this was a LOT of hassle. I spent over 4 hours on the phone — and with me, it is always the principle of the matter, rather than the dollar amount (though that is important too). Yes, I did file a complaint with the N.C. BBB — and they will now close to out, as they should, saying matter fully resolved. But, it will be there as a warning to others.

Given that I also complained to DirecTV that I was scammed by one of THEIR authorized resellers I got some ‘non-monetary’ compensation from them too — as I should, given the aggravation. So I kind of made out, as I also did when DISH dropped NEO and TEN Cricket from their ‘Cricket Pack’. But, I am an expert and complaining.

I worry about people who get scammed by these resellers.

See the difference in price. $19.95 from DirecTV vs. $74.97 from ‘Direct Sat TV’. $55.02 difference. That is how they make their money.

So be warned. Be careful. Be very careful.

‘Direct Sat TV’, N.C., Just Called Me And Admitted Misrepresentation! I Am Supposedly Getting 100% Refund. BBB Complaint Accepted.

Got the above e-mail from the ‘Better Business Bureau’ this morning.

Then, about 20 minutes ago, I received a call from ‘Jeanine’ — who said she was from ‘Direct Sat’.

She said that she was calling about my complaints — though she was not specific about which ones; i.e., complaint I filed with BBB or the joint call I made yesterday morning with a Disputes Manager from my Bank of America credit card.

But she said this. That they had reviewed my call with them on June 12, as I had asked them to do in both complaints, and that I WAS RIGHT.

The rep had, as I was claiming, MISREPRESENTED ‘Direct Sat’ as ‘DirecTV’!

Remember that was my contention all along. I checked. They lied. I am not totally stupid. Much of the time I do know what I am doing.

She says that they will now give me a FULL refund. She has given me a phone number: 910-693-30xx.

I will not count my pigs until I see the credit on my online statement. But, this is a start.

I asked her if the rep had been fired. She said that she did not know but that the ‘case’ had been escalated to the proper management.

This is still SICK.

‘Direct Sat TV’ From N.C. Scammed Me. Duped Me Out Of $24.99 By Misrepresentation. I Filed BBS Complaint.

Direct Sat lied to me, blatantly, three times last Tuesday, June 12, 2013. They told me, three times, that I was talking DIRECTLY to DirecTV. I was not.

They overcharged me and gave me a $39.99 3-year warranty package that DirecTV does NOT HONOR!

DirecTV cancelled my order through Direct Sat and the account they set up. They set up a NEW account with the RIGHT PRICING.

Direct Sat will NOT give me my money back. My Bank of America credit card dispute handling department called them up with me on the line. They tell me that $24.99 for ‘shipping’ is not refundable and that I am screwed on that THOUGH I returned the equipment they sent me today — via UPS. So they are screwing me for $24.99 after they lied to me.

I checked with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The last complaint that they dealt with says 100% what I experienced. They represented themselves as DirecTV. Exactly what they did with me.

This is wrong. This is FRAUD.

Yes, I too filed a BBS complaint as you can see. This company is unethical. They are just plain scammers. I am sick to my stomach that I was scammed. Yes, I feel stupid. But, I did my best to validate them. I asked 3 times!    This is the problem with a phone call. If it was on the Web I would have seen the URL.

My recommendation is that you avoid this company like the plague. Their phone number is: 1-800-595-4101.

Check out the BBS complaints and see that I did file my complaint too.

DirecTV ‘compensated’ me SOME for this $24.99 when I called them back today. I won’t know whether that is valid till I get my service on Friday.

I will keep you posted.

Heads Up. Stay clear of Direc Sat TV.

They also go by the name ‘travelresorts.com’.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me. They lied. Click to read the complaints at BBB.
