Mt. Major is the best known and most rewarding hike in and around Alton, New Hampshire. You can’t beat the views from the top. It is a relatively easy hike, albeit with a few tough spots, and you can get to the top in about 45-minutes. The elevation at the top is 1,785′ — and there is, cutely, a roofless remains of an old house built in the 1920s when folks used to go up by horse. I feel bad for the horses.

This was my second visit to the top and I can’t understand why I don’t do it more often. I am going to try.

It was an Alton Central School (ACS) field trip and I was a chaperone.

It was perfect weather (though there was a haze and Mt. Washington was behind clouds).

Well, I thought you might enjoy the pictures — taken with my Sony a6500.
