Lake Winnipesaukee [NH] 2019 Ice-Out Was Wednesday, April 24 — @ 5:24am.

Prior instances when it was on April 24 (non-leap years)
and April 23 (leap years).

I take LEAP YEARS into account.
I count days from January 1, taking into account leap years.
So, April 21 & April 22 are 111-days in From Jan. 1
depending on whether it was Leap Year or not.

So, it wasn’t April 22nd as most people had expected. It was two-day later.

But, it was 2-days earlier than last year.

Same as 2015.

2014 was one-day off, but was also on a Wednesday.

Nowhere close to being even close to ‘long’. Longest was 132-days (since Jan. 1) in 1888.

Also, not the shortest. SHORTEST was just 3-years ago. 2016. 77-days, March 18,

Prevailing consensus is that it most likely will be April 22 in 2019. But, there could always be a pesky little floe floating around that could delay it by 12-, 24-, 36 or even 48-hours.

I am just going with the flow.

Lake Winnipesaukee [NH] Ice-Out: Longest [i.e., Latest] Occurrences.

1964 was a LEAP YEAR and I take that into account.
I count days from January 1, taking into account leap years.
So, April 29 in a non-leap year is the SAME as April 28 in a Leap Year.

So, of course, we have had ice-outs as late as May 12 — albeit not of late.

2018 [i.e., last year], on April 26, was pretty late. Don’t think it will be as late this year. But, I suspect we are still at least a good week away.

There will be a fair amount of interest this year since Chanukah/Hanukkah First Night, falls on Christmas Eve.

That is special. Only the 4th time it has fallen on Christmas Even since 1900.

Chanukah/Hanukkah First Night can also fall on Christmas Day, as it did in 2005 and will again in 2024.

But, given the 8-day span of Chanukah/Hanukkah this ‘Chrismukkah’ conjunction can happen any time Chanukah/Hanukkah falls December 18th and Christmas day.

This has happened 33 times since 1900 to 2016: 1902, 1905, 1908, 1910, 1913, 1916, 1921, 1924, 1927, 1932, 1935, 1940, 1943, 1946, 1951, 1954, 1959, 1962, 1965, 1970, 1973, 1978, 1981, 1984, 1989, 1992, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2011 & 2016.

It will happen 20 times between next year and 2099: 2019, 2022, 2024, 2027, 2030, 2035, 2038, 2046, 2049, 2054, 2057, 2065, 2068, 2073, 2076, 2084, 2087, 2092, 2095 & 2098.

You don’t have to wait long. Next one is in but 3 years! 2019.

My Latest Camera — An Argus C3

by Anura Guruge

This is, by far, the MOST complicated camera I have touched in
the last 2 years. Makes the Nikon D500, that I recently rented,
feel like a toy. Not sure what kind of sensor it has or how
good its autofocus is.

It is an Argus C3. I don’t ever remember seeing one of these prior to today. It is called the ‘Brick’ and that is NOT just for its physical dimensions. It weighs MORE than a brick. WOW. We have forgotten how much mechanical cameras weighed. Feels SOLID. Just like holding a brick. A kind lady in Wolfeboro had in on Facebook — for free. Deanna contacted her. Belonged to her late husband. Came with the instruction booklet. Would be cool to put a roll of film and take some pictures. Wonder what ISO would work.
