I gather they blossomed two-days ago, but today was the first time I saw them. The usual place, not very far from us. I typically go by there at least once a day — but often that is at 9:30pm at night when it is pitch black.

The Town (viz. ‘Alton‘) a couple of weeks ago totally cleared the bottom half of that slope of all vegetation. I wondered if they would harm some of the plants. They might have. But, they are above the law as far as I know when it comes to harming Lady Slippers. I guess they have to maintain the roads.

It was raining when I got to the Ladys this morning. The bank, freshly cleared was slippery and I am still nursing my recovering knee. So, I wasn’t too adventurous about scrambling up to snap more pictures. I will go back in a few days.

Enjoy.

All of these are from within 1.6 miles of home. The bulk are from our yard. The lady slippers was from my ‘secret’ spot and I took that picture when walking the dogs. Four of the pictures, with the vast green fields are from a neighbors. I went to visit them. They had called and told me to come and take some pictures!

New Hampshire 2018 “Lady Slippers” Now At Their Resplendent Best — Pink & Plump.

All these pictures were taken today, Wednesday, May 23, 2018 — some in the morning, the others in the evening. Same place. A now heavily overgrown, and somewhat steep, West-facing bank about 200-yards from our house. I discovered that it is a haven for Lady Slippers a few years ago. So now I gingerly check every Spring. So the first signs about a week ago. Today they are at their peak. At least 7 or 8 flowers across multiple plants. There could be more. I don’t like to encroach.

So, enjoy.

2018 New Hampshire “Lady Slippers” — Now Turning Pink (May 19).

Five days into my first sighting of 2018 some of the lady slippers are turning pink. This was today, May 19, 2018, around 5pm.

Tonights rain, I think, will help. I think it likes moist, damp conditions.

Difficult to take pictures since they are on a steep bank surrounded by dense vegetation.

I went and checked again today (i.e., May 16) — albeit just 2-days after my first sighting.

Sill green though the buds, of course, are more voluptuous and you can see a hint of pink.

Today, I saw at least three more ‘new’ plants — all smaller than the one pictured. That is good news.

I will go and check again in a few days.

I have been looking for them — viz. our Lady Slippers.

Given the unusually chilly Spring we have had I expect them to blossom a bit late.

I now know where to look. We have an area, close to home, that has had a profusion of Lady Slippers the last few years.

So, this morning, while walking the dogs, I checked. Found these two ‘prepubescent’ blossoms. Went back later with my Google Pixel 2.

I will, of course, keep you posted.

The same bank that I photographed 4-days ago, albeit with my Sony a7 II (which does not have a macro capable lens).

Same flowers, I think — more or less. A couple more may have popped up since my last foray. I don’t think anybody else has seen them — at least as yet. I need to go look for more, hopefully around our yard.

I am glad I know of this spot since I can go back, each year, for pictures.

Enjoy.
