You can steal this picture if you so wish.

Last Year — déjà vu! Exact same spot!
Only difference is I look older. Same clothes. Alas. Not fun being poor. SMILE.

Not much I have to say. Should be fairly self-explanatory. We got married on January 1, 2003 — I picking that day knowing I was going senile and would soon forget the date UNLESS I picked one that I would not be able to miss. SMILE. There is, promise, always method to my madness.

Deanna, having grown up waterfront, likes the ocean, so we try to go to the ocean on our anniversary and Hampton Beach is pretty handy and fun.

You could actually see THREE of us in this picture. But, as she keeping on insisting, she is still learning (and does not have my experience). SMILE.

Happy Chinese New Year 2018, “Year Of The Dog” — Starting This Friday, February 16.

Those of you who know me or follow this blog must have worked that I celebrate three (3) New Years, each year, with gusto — January 1, Chinese New Year & then Sinhala New Year on April 14.

Well, Chinese New Year is coming up and for us in New Hampshire it is a welcome respite from the cold and snow. Yes, we plan to go down to Boston, as we do nearly every year, to celebrate.

But, today I just wanted to give you a heads up.

Year of the Dog — and though I am, alas, a ‘snake’, as you know I am inordinately fond of dogs.

Don’t forget, FREE celebratory event at the ‘Confucius Institute’, UNH (Durham, NH) tomorrow and Wednesday.

January 31, 2018: Forget “Blue Moon Eclipse” In New Hampshire, Focus On The Supermoon.

by Anura Guruge

Blue Supermoon over New Hampshire Wednesday, January 31, 2018 Anura Guruge

Base skychart, as ever, from “neave.com/planetarium” — with much appreciation.

Forget the “Blue Moon Eclipse“. It will NOT be a total eclipse in New Hampshire. Nada.

It will be partial, it will be early in the morning, the moon will most likely be BELOW the New Hampshire tree line and it will be fleeting.

It really is a NON-EVENT in New Hampshire.

The Supermoon — a Blue Moon at that — Wednesday evening is a whole different matter.

It will NOT be Blue. Sorry. ‘Blue’ denotes rarity — 2nd full moon in a month.

It will not be as near to us as the 1st one on January 1, 2018.

Clouds, always a problem in New Hampshire, might be a problem.

But, definitely go out, tomorrow night and have a gander. You might even see it through the clouds.

Enjoy.

January 31, 2018 “Blue Moon Eclipse” Will NOT BE TOTAL In New Hampshire — Just V. Partial. OK?

by Anura Guruge

Base information for both images from
timeanddate.com
Visit them for LOT more.

5 Things to remember & note.

  1. It will NOT be a BLUE Moon! That is just an expression — in that it is the 2nd Full Moon in the month. The other having been on January 1, 2018 — which was also a Supermoon.
So, I repeat. The moon will NOT be blue. Not Blue. Promise.
    ….
  2. The TOTAL eclipse begins to the West of us. So we will only see a Partial Eclipse and a very partial one at that. And it will be fleeting.
    ….
  3. The Moon will set beyond the horizon, not counting our tree line, soon after the Partial Eclipse starts!
We might see it, at most, for 3 minutes! Yes, 3 minutes. It might already be below the tree line.
    ….
  4. It is in the morning. Not at night. 6:57 am — i.e., morning.
    ….
  5. Weather could, as ever, in New Hampshire, be an issue.

Garmin Vivoactive 3, Firmware 2.80 Does Appear To Slow Down Battery Drain.

by Anura Guruge

You should be able to find the latest firmware news here.

My 20-day old Garmin Vivoactive 3 has been running on the new 2.80 firmware for the last 6-days, since December 29, 2017.

It definitely has prolonged battery life — maybe DOUBLED it.

On Monday, January 1, 2018 the software did have a conniption, but I was able to recover by doing a soft reset.

Still early days.

My first Garmin Vivoactive 3 died after 15 days. So, I am still rather leary and ‘jumpy’.

I am monitoring battery life and I will keep you posted.

Happy New Year.

Two More SUPERMOONS Over New Hampshire In January 2018 — Weather Permitting.

by Anura Guruge

So, as I had feared thick clouds really put a damper on Sunday, December 3, 2017’s Supermoon. I am glad I took a couple of pictures, through wispier clouds the night before.

But, all is not lost. Two more — yes, two — in January 2018. The 2nd will be a Blue Moon, the second Full Moon of a month.

The January 1, 2018 will be even closer than the December 4.

So, that is good. I will keep you posted.
