If You Are On Zyrtec Don’t Bother Trying To Switch Or Quit — Simple As That!

You are going to go on Zyrtec because you have bad allergies. And usually you have bad allergies because you are susceptible to various types of allergen — and rarely just one. If you are the allergic type, you are invariably going to be allergic to dust mites on top of the other stuff that likely bothers you.

So, if you start taking Zyrtec you might as well resign yourself to it being a life-sentence.

That definitely seems to be the case with I and I have come to terms with it.

It was 7-years ago that I was advised to take a Zyrtec a day, 365-days a year, whether I thought I needed it or not. I did as I was told. It was a miracle. Most of the chest colds I used to get, two to three times a year, basically went away. Overall I became much healthier. I realized that most of my chest colds were set off my allergies. So, I take Zyrtec, religiously, every day — as does Teischan (12).

Last August my doctor told me that he thinks Zyrtec is too strong and that I should switch to Claritin. I did. It was a bust. Claritin just wasn’t strong enough. My chest problems came back with a vengeance in days. So, after 22-days of suffering I had no choice but to go back to Zyrtec.

So, when I saw this article I was conflicted. People complaining of Zyrtec withdrawal appear to be missing the point. They shouldn’t be trying to go off Zyrtec in the first place! The itching will be the least of their problems. My advice is that they don’t try to quit.

Just stick with Zyrtec. That is what I am doing.

Switching From Zyrtec To Claritin, Per Doctor’s Orders, Was A TOTAL BUST — Back On Zyrtec.

Cetirizine Hydrochloride = Brand Name: Zyrtec.

I had major reservations about this BUT he was so, so ADAMANT. Given that I need every bit of help I can, given my precarious help, I wasn’t going to take any chances. So, I did switch to 10mg Loratadine (generic Claritin), per day, as the doctor ordered. That was on August 18, 2018. 22-days ago.

Yes, he did say that the Loratadine would not be as effective as it was not as potent. He was bloody right. It was utterly ineffective.

My allergies affect my chest. I had gone nearly 6-years without having too many chest issues, e.g., bouts of regular bronchitis — and that was when I took Zyrtec, religiously, every day.

My chest problems came back with a vengeance. Yes, pollen allergies, to which I am very susceptible, are high right now — and it was doing a job on my chest. I felt like I was having a constant heart-attack (and given my health, it is possible that I was having a few heart attacks too).

To exacerbate matters, Teischan’s allergist TOTALLY disagreed with my doctor though they work in the same facility! She was MAD that I had switched Teischan from Zyrtec to Claritin. She wanted Teischan back on Zyrtec the NEXT day. That was like 10-days ago. She has no idea as to why my doctor, her colleague, asked me to switch.

So, this morning, I was back to Zyrtec. Still having issues but I assume it will take a few days for the Zyrtec to kick-in.

Just wanted to share this with you. OK?

Doctors Now Recommending AGAINST Taking Zyrtec Antihistamine DAILY.

Cetirizine Hydrochloride = Brand Name: Zyrtec.

I have been taking 10mg of (generic) Zyrtec, i.e., Cetirizine Hydrochloride, DAILY, without fail (but maybe at most a few times) for 5 years and 8 months; 2089 days.

I would swear by it. I thought it was a miracle drug.

My primary care doctor, at the time, i.e., 2012, had told me that I should do so.

I used to be haunted and plagued with severe bronchitis. At least twice year, once in Spring the other in Fall, bronchitis would cripple me. So, in November 2012, after I nearly DIED from a bout of bronchitis and coughed so hard that I broke a rib, my doctor told me to start taking Zyrtec.

IT WAS MAGIC.

It stopped my bronchitis — dead. I really haven’t had a debilitating attack in those 5.6-years.

I was so happy. I would tell others about it. I had my 12-year old on daily Zyrtec — and her doctor was fine with it.

Today, I had my dreaded physical. Different doctor, same practice. The other one, who told me to take Zyrtec had left.

This doctor, who I have been seeing for the last 4 years is an Indian, my age and we share a very similar background.

So, he goes through ALL my health woes, my unstoppable weight gain up near the top since some of my other problems can be attributed to it.

He tells me that he is CONVINCED that most of my problems are due to my daily Zyrtec. I spluttered and choked.

He, then, makes it worse.

He said he tried telling me last year at my physical, but when he saw how happy I was with the Zyrtec he decided to wait. BUGGER.

He told me to take 10mg Loratadine (generic Claritin) instead, daily — and ONLY take Zyrtec, occasionally, if the Loratadine “wasn’t cutting it” on days when my allergies were real bad. WOW.
