Fuji X-T2 story from ‘New Camera’. Click to access.

This is what it will most likely look like.

Indistinguishable from the existing Fuji X-T1. All the new goodies will be inside. That is FINE with me.

This is THE attraction. I want knobs for MOST of my settings. Yes, the old-fashioned way.

It has taken me 15 months and 5 cameras, viz. Canon T3i, Sony a77 Mk II, Panasonic Lumix FZ1000, Canon G1 X & Sony RX100 II, to work it out BUT I now know what I want in my next camera. Deanna will NOT be happy but she is resigned to the fact that I will get another camera ‘soon’. Well the timing of the new Fuji X-T2 will be perfect and it might keep her reasonably happy. I can wait until close to my 2016 birthday to get it and it has become the new tradition that I treat myself to a new camera for my birthday.

So what am I looking for in a camera. BEST image quality I can get at a reasonable price. That also, by default, means that I want a sensor that is at least 1″. Well with the Fuji X-T2 I can get back to APSC size — what I had to begin with with the Canon T3i.

I am committed to mirrorless. To me a mirror is an unnecessary pain. So the Fuji fits the bill perfectly. Also has a good electronic viewfinder with supposedly split-screen image focusing. That would be heaven. I loved split-screen. Peaking is nice BUT split-screen is better.

All I hope is that the X-T2 offers at least 20MP. Yes, I can live with 16MP but that will seems rather passé in 2016.

For the last 6 months I kind of had this feeling that Fuji will be in my life. I don’t think I have ever owned a Fuji camera. So this will be a first.

I Got A New Sony RX100 M2 (II) To Replace The Refurbished Canon G1 X I Returned.

The new Sony RX100 II (or M2).

What can I say? I know I returned a Sony a77 II a month ago and now I am getting another Sony. Well, it from a different Sony family though I do appreciate that there is probably a lot of common software in both. But, I do like Sony technology, particular their leadership in Sensors, I am a Sony shareholder and I like the look-and-feel of Sony cameras.

Yes, I know that this is the 4th camera I have bought in under 2 months — BUT I did return two. What can I say. This Sony RX100 II was to replace the $269 refurbished Canon G1 X that I returned today. Yes, it is true that the Sony RX100 M2 arrived before I got around to shipping the G1 X — but I had got the RMA (i.e., return authorization) for the G1 X on Monday. I didn’t order the Sony till Tuesday afternoon (i.e., yesterday) and BuyDig.com, to make amends, sent it priority overnight. It was here, on the doorstep, at 8:30am — and I was still in bed.

Yes, I got this one, like the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000, from BuyDig.com rather than Amazon. That is scary. But there was a good reason for that this time. I needed to talk to actual human being to try and negotiate a deal. And that is what happened. I wanted a refurbished. That is why I called. They didn’t have any refurbished. They said they had two ‘Open Box’ and he, ‘Ray Messiah‘ (I kid YOU not), sold me one for $228. I was chuffed. That was cheap, even for ‘open box’. Two hours later I get an e-mail from BuyDig.com, after they charged my credit-card, that they are sorry but it was a mistake and that they don’t have an ‘open box’ unit to sell. I was livid. Yes, that could have been a trick. I called Ray. I was not amused. He understood. He got me to Google “Sony RX100 M2”. I had a list of the prices on offer. He sold me a new unit for $4 less than the lowest price. It was basically at cost. And he threw in overnight to appease me.

So that is the story.

So why the Sony RX100 II. Sensor, Sensor & Sensor. 1″ back-illuminated CMOS sensor. That is why I went with the M2 rather than the M1. The ‘back-illuminated’. Should help with low-light scenarios and I shoot a lot of low-light because of the concerts and plays I take pictures at. This is why I gravitate back to Sony. Sensors, lenses and price.

So that is the story. Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 as my main camera (for now) and the Sony RX100 II as my carry anywhere ‘point-and-shoot’.

The LAST pictures I took with my refurbished $269 Canon PowerShot G1 X. JPEGs, as usual, with no post-processing, whatsoever. Straight out of the camera. I am not a lover of post-processing. I am returning the G1 X back to Canon, after having it for less than a week. It is way too slow for me. That is a shame because I really do like it. Takes good pictures but the lag between each picture is not for me.

Note we still have great foliage in Central New Hampshire.
I was pleased and amazed during my morning run.

I Am Returning My $269 Refurbished Canon G1 X, It Is Way TOO Slow For Me.

The $269 Refurbished Canon G1 X, I got directly from Canon, takes some amazing, very clear, very sharp pictures with vivid color. It is really good at taking facial pictures. I was very impressed with the image quality.

But, when it came to me, a well documented Type Hyper-AAA +++ person, it was WAY TOO slow between shots. It is rated at 1.9 shots per second but I never saw anything that quick. You take a picture and you want to review it. It takes forever. You get this black screen saying ‘BUSY’. I just can’t deal with that. Life is too short to waste peering at a black LCD for it to display the image I want to see.

So, great little (but heavy) camera. Loved it. Just did NOT like the lag time between shots — or at least between shots in my type of shooting, i.e., take a picture, make sure it is OK, then move to the next. Yes, I am sure if I held the shutter down it would take pictures fairly rapidly. But I do not do that often. I like to see what I shot before I move on. That way I can take another to correct any problems.

So I am back to the drawing board. What next?

Again taken with Canon G1 X.

At ‘Sandwich Fair’, October 2015 (check post) in a mirror, mounted inside a horse harness, at ‘New Beginnings by Clara Sullivan’, by FAR my favorite stall. I must do a post on her work. I took a ton of pictures. The camera is my Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 and this was its first real outing.

October 22, 2015, my (new) refurbished Canon PowerShot G1 X, taken the second day I had it, using my bathroom mirror.

April 2015, at the ‘Grand Canyon’, Arizona, (check post), using the Canon Rebel T3i (which is now Devanee’s camera). I could NOT afford the fancy headgear though I really took a shine to it. It was SO ME.

Enjoy. Thank YOU.
